Flag of Blood Keep and MR

I've got a question concerning the combo of the Flag of Blood Keep (unit of Blood Knights) and Magic Resistance (MR).

It grants the unit a ward save of 4+ vs shooting (cannons, arrows..) and a 2+ save vs spells.
What spells does this save cover ? (Magic missiles, direct damage, vortexes, damaging spells, others..?)

Currently, cannons and shooting are around alot. Though ill advised to put your general in a unit of blood knights. If you were to run a second blender, he would probably benefit quite alot from said saves.

Thoughts?
