That took a good amount of work, i am very pleased by the result... and must be said that it wouldn't have been so good if not for the collaboration between me and The Sun King .

Don't worry folks, it will be constantly updated.

Nice handbook as always :)

I don't have (yet, mortal realms collection take's forever to release) a NH army, but I don't understand why so little value for the Stalker.

Sure they do no damage and are frail, but as a support for heavier hitter, with their +4 to charge, they nearly have a garanted 10+ charge to give always strike last

Doesn't sound so bad, at least in paper, practice may be a whole other world obviously ;)

Thanks Kiba!

The Wave of Terror ability only counts unmodified charge rolls, sadly. So you pay 105 points for a unit that dies to a stiff breeze, can do no damage and has no utility. Even worse there are better options for the same price or cheaper in the same faction. The unit might have been playable if it was 70 points.

Please be aware that command abilities in 3e have default ranges if no range is otherwise listed (same unit for champions, wholly within 12" for regular heroes, wholly within 18" for generals and totems). The Drowner, as a totem, can use his command ability only on a unit he can see that is wholly within 18" of him, not any unit he can see on the table. If he is the general, then a harrow can copy the ability only on a unit it can see that is wholly within 12" of it. Still a strong ability, but not as strong as seems to be implied above.

Alse, re Dreadscythes, its worth mentioning that they lack inherent rend. Yes, you can potentially get some from wave of terror, but that's unreliable & even if you do get it they will still have less than bladegheists or dreadscythes would have. This doesn't make dreadscythes worthless, but if you are taking them it pushes the new purple sun (plus a wizard that can reliably push it through, like reikenor or a guardian of souls general) up from merely a good choice to probably a must take.

I'm happy you enjoy our work Sception 😝.

Jokes aside, yeah we'll clarify that normal ranges still apply to Awlrach.

Regarding the Harridans it is indeed their lack of rend that makes them only 3 stars, and we do mention that they perform best against low armour armies. We can add the synergy with Purple Sun to their section as it is quite a handy tool. 😀

Handbook has been updated - and this is a big one!

  • Added a new section on battle tactics and grand strategies.
  • Added strategic tips to the Chainrasps entry.
  • Added points about synergy between Spirit Hosts and Lady Olynder to both entries.
  • Removed irrelevant part of Bladegheist entry.
  • Removed erroneous statements from Harridans entry.
  • Downgraded Myrmourn Banshees to four stars and added clarification on how their dispel effect works.
  • Downgraded both Knights of Shrouds with a star.
  • Upgraded Krulghast Cruciator to five stars and added a point about their effectiveness in current meta.
  • Added a couple of tactical points to Lady Olynder.
  • Added a humorous statement to the end of the Spirit Torment entry.
  • Added a point about Black Coach opening up for a faction battle tactic.
  • Removed out of date part of Mourngul's entry.
  • Upgraded Master of Magic to four stars and added some notes on its usability.
  • Added some information on how to best use the Beacon of Nagashizzar.
  • Upgraded Ghostmist to two stars.
  • Upgraded Geminids to four stars and added some information on how it works.
  • Removed erroneous information from Mortalis Terminexus.
  • Fixed various typos.

Unas the slayer / The Sun King - an updated version wold be excellent, but in the meantime was this for a previous edition just so I can tag it up properly?

you're right, this is now obsolete.
and even AoS 4.0 today has been updated with rules and new points.

Alas, i actually play very little AoS, so yes, i know how Nighthaunts work, but i'm not too versed in the game as it is now. Not enough to compile a new handbook, not by myself at least.

I would have loved to update it, but with the newest battletome coming out, they fundamentally changed how the army works, and I will not be practicing with NH for a long time as I focus on FEC, so yeah, I simply don't have the knowledge of the new version of the army to provide an update as of now. If it changes I will of course update it, but I will also gladly hand over the torch to someone up for the task?

No worries, this presumably still works for AoS 3 when it was written? We can record the article as it was then, and I'll make a note we're looking for an updated version in case someone wants to write one up for us!
