The 'Soulblight Gravelords' are coming abd the hype seems very real. Both the Cursed City box game and the new vampire warband for underworlds blew through their alloted pre-order supply pretty quickly in most regions, and those were just vamp count adjacent products for side games. Now were starting to see signs that the actual AoS release, with the new battletome and the long-awaited blood knights, could be imminant, as soon as in the next couple weeks.

If you've got a good relationship with your local shop nanager, definitely let them know what you want so they can hold it for you. Otherwise, you'd better figure out what time GW updates their webpage in your region & start mashing F5 so that you might have a hope of getting your order in before the preorder dies.

Personally, I'll be stuck in the latter category, hoping to get in fast enough to snag the book, cards, woght king, & some blood knights.

Very excited for this release! Unfortunately I work every Saturday when preorders go up and the closest shop to me struggles to get enough in for everyone so I won't be getting much till after the initial hype.

Includes an allusion to Abhorash. I never much cared for the character, and I still doubt they'll actually bring him back as a character in AoS, but I know a lot of other vamp count fans do like him and are hoping for his return, so I'm sure they'll appreciate the nod to him.

Hrm. "Humans, Ghouls, Zombies, and Vampires." I wonder how much we should make of that. Zombies and Vampires, yeah, of course. But ghouls? Is this a sign that there was something to those rumors of FEC getting rolled into the gravelords? Humans? Will we get human peoples of Shyish serving in the soulblight armies? Or could that refer to the witch hunters we already know are getting added to the Cities army as a direct counterpoint to the new soulblight army?

Preorder will be this month too.

Lauka Vai / Vengorian lord is a... /weird/ concept. But they've quickly grown on me, and I'll absolutely be adding one to my army. Whether I go for the named version or generic will depend on the available subfactions and their lore. And I guess how dificult it will be to magnetize them.

New Dire Wolves look good.

New Vyrkos characters look good, but the way GW has dumped cursed city and, based on the rumors, the extremely lackluster implementation of the existing cursed city stuff still kind of has me feeling a bit sour on the Vyrkos in general.

If I'm being honest, despite all the kits we're already getting, I had kind of hoped for more. A vampire lord on a horse model (is that option even staying around? GW's dropped the old resin model with no replacement). A spellcasting specialist generic vampire hero. Stand alone releases, or at least stand alone unit entries, for grave keeper, nightguard, and vargskyr. A stand alone release/unit entry for either blood-born or some other vampire infantry. New grave guard models - the current ones look puny, awkwardly posed, and not-at-all-elite next to the new skeleton warriors. Faction terrain and endless spells - is anyone else surprised by the absence of these in particular?

Even without all that, this is still a pretty epic release wave, though. And while I'm not prepared to replace all my old square base infantry yet, I will be picking up:

  • the battletome (limited edition if possible)
  • Lauka/Vengabus
  • Mounted wight king
  • at least 1 box dire wolves
  • at least 1 box blood knights
  • warscroll cards
  • maybe some dire bats, depending on how the budget looks after all that
