Not a bad set. People are speculating what's in the brett's box although i think it's an obvious Men at arms, archers, knight block and peg knights mix.

do you think there's still some reluctance on how much investment they do in TOW?

eh, GW is sending mixed signals.
From one side, they release a whole new faction and new models for old armies, but on the other side they just repack old wareouse remnants without even bothering to insert some cookies

Totally agree. For us old heads we already have all of that. Although at least we did get those new characters just recently.

It is very odd, and it's not like they can't specifically create TK skellies, the archers and egyptian theming won't work in AoS so it has that separation they needed - all they had to do was to take inspiration from the later skellies in AoS (i.e. the better proportions) create an updated box.

From my brief experience with TK, old school desert skeletons mix quite well with 7th ed. VC skeletons (given you can find these to buy..) in one unit.
Alternatively, one can print the core infantry for TK from vast choice of minis available online. Highland Minis make quite good ones, to be honest.
Old school skellies look quite weird when compared to Tomb Guards, which are more modern sculpts and, frankly, one of best looking undead rank and file models.

Edit:

Found an old pic of desert skellies mixed with VC ones.

Yes, they do actually look quite well together (y) Interestingly I've seen a few mentions now of Highland Minis for various sculpts, I think I will need to take a look at them

Here's a sample of wet dead skellies from HM:

Great stuff, if you ask me. Scaled down to 28mm from their native 32mm, they don't seem to have their details and sharpness diminished. I like how they resemble the old 7ed skeletons.
Renders of TK skellies also look promising, so perhaps that's the way to go?

These have just arrived, fell bats printed from HM's STL files. I'm stunned!

To be absolutely clear, I am in no way, shape or form connected to Highland Miniatures. I am just a very satisfied customer, who thinks HM deserves a little bit of publicity, especially among people who might appreciate their work. Hope that's not against good taste and rules of this forum.

And to give respect where it's due, I have not seen any Blood Knights or Dire Wolves minis which could even match quality, posing and undead-ish vibe of miniatures from Games Workshop. GW's vampires and rotten wolves are simply the best, in my most humble opinion.
The same goes for their characters, doesn't matter which army, doesn't matter which edition. They are just great, full of charisma, great stuff altogether.
I don't like these pin up style big titted vampirellas offered by 3d sculptors, I don't like that much of spikes and iron on orc's war bosses visible on, say, AoW miniatures, I don't like that much of steam punkiness on Dwarven engineers from 3rd party creators. Doesn't matter if it's 7ed Isabella von Carstein, or if it's I-don't-even-know-which-edition Orc shaman with bony staff, or if it's ToW Ungrim Ironhide, GW characters are the best.
