This thread is for voting on the one of the Special options for the Legion of Nagash - Bone Thrower

Please note: This is not to vote whether they fit in with the theme etc. That is what the discussion in the threads is for.

It is to check and ensure we have created fair rules that are not unbalancing, or there is not something grossly wrong that has been over looked.

This Poll will close on 23/08/09

Bone Thrower - 50pts
Thrower ..........M - / WS - / BS - / S - / T 7 / W 3 / I - / A - / Ld -
Siege Cadaver M 4 / WS 2 / BS 2 / S 3 / T 3 / W 1 / I 2 / A 1 / Ld 5

Unit Size: 1
Crew: 2 Siege Cadavers (Note: The crew can never be increased past its starting size, however it they can be raised back even if both are killed, as long as the Bone Thrower has not been destroyed.)
Weapons and Armour: The Skeleton crew have light armour and hand weapons
Range: 48"
Strength: 5
Damage: D3

Special Rules:
Undead
Bolt Thrower (pierces ranks as per the BRB)
Enscorcelled
Made from the thigh bones of giants, the bolts are fused with magic by the Disciples of Nagash, designed to make sure they do not miss their target
Shots from the Bone Thrower do not suffer from negative range modifiers apply to the shots. All other positive and negative modifiers apply as normal. Shots from the Bone Thrower also count as magical.

Upgrades:
Cursed Ammunition - 25pts
Wrought with runes of death, these deadly bones cause the flesh to rot with the slightest scratch
The player may re-roll any wound caused by the Bone Thrower. They still benefit from the Enscorcelled special rule.

Upto two Bone Throwers may be taken as a Special choice

I say too powerful for the points. 50 Points to get a bolt thrower than is very hard to kill (because you never end up killing the machine itself, just the crew. Then they come back), has magical attacks (huge) and doesn't suffer range modifiers. Sure they are only BS2, but even then most other bolt throwers would be hitting on 5s at long range anyway.

Take O&G Bolt Throws. They have BS2 and are 35pts. If for 15pts the O&G player could make them have magic attacks, regenerable crew, and no penalty for long range, would they? Yes. It would be a no-brainer. And when a choice is that much of a obvious choice, it is overpowered. Like the RoH or Pendant with the DE.

So bump the points up and then ill be in agreement.

100 points each id say they will definetely be a knight killer possibly have the option for a undead giant or ogre to load the machine-extra rate of fire????

Actually Oracle, the crewmen for the O&G have BS3. :)

I think that the proposed rules are fair. Yes they've got magical attacks but will usually hit on a 5+ with a lower strength than most other Bolt Throwers. The Cursed Ammunition upgrade is a nice touch as well.

I'll add my vote to Yes for this. :)

Edit: Although, why do the Siege Cadavers have such a high Initiative statistic? Shouldn't they be more Zombie-like in their approach, because right now they're as quick as Blood Knights.

They shouldn't have such high Initiative, I will lower it to 2.

Again Oracle I think you are overstating their effectiveness, especially when thought of in a whole of the army. You won't simply be raising the troops back as the Legion has limited healing spells unlike VC. BS 2 means they will miss 2/3 of their shots in general, which is a pretty big deal.

I think it would be more powerfull in a VC army then in any other army because we don't have any shooting to begin with. Maybe make the siege engine itself more destructible, like giving it T5.
