Thanks, captain

I decided to focus on building for now, and to have a mad painting fit afterwards. Glad to say I have made pretty good progress towards catching up.

So, I am now at the point where I have built and ready for undercoating:
Main pledge
All except:
Malak, Vampire Lord on Pegasus
Revenant Knights

Secondary pledge
All except:
Undead Revenant Regiment

I will look to try to get them all done next weekend, and then on to the next stage.

Main and secondary pledges now assembled and ready for undercoating. Hopefully, weather willing, I can kick this off tomorrow.

I will also try to get a few pictures up of the hoard in its entirety

The weather was not too kind to me, and work commitments and a bad cold did me no favours either.

What I have managed to do is undercoat and paint the 30 ghouls, who are waiting for a coat of varnish and basing.

I also took the opportunity to build another 30 skeletons over and above the ones pledged, whilst waiting for the weather to clear enough to spray undercoat (which it didn't :-( )

I suspect that I will struggle to complete this now, but will push on with things and see how it goes.

Just rechecked dates, and realised that this ends in January - there is hope for me yet!! :-D

A month since the last progress report, much of which saw me travelling and away from my painting table :(

However, I have made some progress:

Everything is now assembled
All infantry undercoated except one Undead Revenant Regiment (rain stopped play there)

Completed are:
30 Ghouls
30 Skeletons with hafted weapons and shield

25 Skeletons with spear & shield are complete other than some flock to tart up the bases

Photos to follow (have worked out how to get better pictures from my camera :)

OK - here are the nest pics - not quite current, but I will do some up to the minute for next weekend.

the first 2 are of the ghouls - the bases are only basic here - they are now completed

the skeletons are also fully based

Here are the army command group, to be painted

And finally, some of the skeletons

The movement trays are home made, but I was given them by someone quitting the hobby. I think that they are made from 2 sheets of thick card, one with the slot cut out.

They are ok, but I do not use them for gaming as they are much wider and deeper than the minis themselves, and require too much calculation on frontages

OK - a long overdue update.

Having been away for most of November between work and a holiday in Egypt, and then catchup and the manic leadup to and Christmas/the New Year itself, things have been much slower than hoped.

Completed are:
30 Ghouls
30 Skeletons with hafted weapons and shield
25 Skeletons with spear & shield
15 Skeletons with swords & shield
1 Balefire Catapult (Crew just need basing)

Nearly complete and ready for varnishing are:
20 Undead Revenant Regiment x 2
2 Balefire Catapult + crew
20 Skeletons with swords & shield

The rest is built, mostly undercoated and in progress.

Time is slipping away - will I make it?? I certainly plan to give it a go :)

A further update.

Still progressing slower than hoped, but I am moving forward.

Completed are:
30 Ghouls
30 Skeletons with hafted weapons and shield
25 Skeletons with spear & shield
15 Skeletons with swords & shield
3 Balefire Catapult (Crew just need basing)

Nearly complete and ready for varnishing are:
20 Undead Revenant Regiment x 2
20 Skeletons with swords & shield

Not so done (undercoated):
20 Undead Revenant Regiment x 1
Revenant King
Undead Standard Bearer

And built and to be undercoated:
Malak, Vampire Lord on Pegasus
Necromancer Lord
Female Necromancer
5 Undead Wraiths
5 Revenant Knights

With luck, I can keep up the momentum... but it will be close I think.

Next update may not be until next weekend, and hopefully will include a couple of photos

The latest update - some progress made :)

I have completed the crew for the catapults and also one of the Revanant regiments. I have also done some more undercoating, so just Malak himself to do there.

I have also realised that I have done too many skeletons (well, more than the pledge, anyway), so will leave the part done regiment for the time being and concentrate on those I am supposed to be working on. I obviously got carried away.

Completed are:
30 Ghouls
30 Skeletons with hafted weapons and shield
25 Skeletons with spear & shield
15 Skeletons with swords & shield
20 Undead Revenant Regiment
3 Balefire Catapult

Nearly complete and ready for varnishing are:
20 Undead Revenant Regiment
20 Skeletons with swords & shield

Not so done (only undercoated):
20 Undead Revenant Regiment
Revenant King
Undead Standard Bearer
Necromancer Lord
Female Necromancer
5 Undead Wraiths
5 Revenant Knights

And built and to be undercoated:
Malak, Vampire Lord on Pegasus

OK - time getting perilously close to the final whistle, and still a lot to do :-(

Completed are:
30 Ghouls
30 Skeletons with hafted weapons and shield
25 Skeletons with spear & shield
15 Skeletons with swords & shield
20 Undead Revenant Regiment
20 Undead Revenant Regiment
3 Balefire Catapult
5 Undead Wraiths (+ an extra Banshee (Reaper)

Nearly complete and ready for varnishing are:
20 Undead Revenant Regiment
20 Skeletons with swords & shield

Not so done (only undercoated):
Revenant King
Undead Standard Bearer
Necromancer Lord
Female Necromancer
5 Revenant Knights

And built and to be undercoated:
Malak, Vampire Lord on Pegasus

Looking back to the original pledge, this means that the 'heroes' amd cavalry are yet to be completed, and the revenant's from the 'Extras'.

I have done an additional 10 skeletons and a Banshee, and have an additional Skeleton Regiment part-way.

I was probably a little overambitious, but it has motivated me to get a lot more done than I might have without it. Off to see what more I can get done before I turn in.

OK - we are into extra time, and a final whistle is imminant. I have pushed some things on:

Completed are:
30 Ghouls
30 Skeletons with hafted weapons and shield
25 Skeletons with spear & shield
15 Skeletons with swords & shield
20 Undead Revenant Regiment
20 Undead Revenant Regiment
3 Balefire Catapult
5 Undead Wraiths (+ an extra Banshee (Reaper)

Nearly complete and ready for varnishing are:
5 Revenant Knights (mounts to be finished)
20 Undead Revenant Regiment
20 Skeletons with swords & shield
Undead Standard Bearer
Necromancer Lord
Female Necromancer

Not so done (only undercoated and/or partly painted):
Revenant King
Malak, Vampire Lord on Pegasus

Looking back to the original pledge, this means that the 'heroes' amd cavalry are yet to be completed, and the revenant's from the 'Extras'.

I have done an additional 10 skeletons and a Banshee, and have an additional Skeleton Regiment part-way.

I was overambitious (I tend to time optimism), and real life came in to bite me, but as I said above, it has got me much further than I might have otherwise. Disappointing, but not a bad result given the slow start to my mind.

So, within the timeframe,
Completed - 149 (taking the war machines/crew as one each)
Near completion - 48
Started - 2

I will try to get some photos up at the weekend (with a little extra progress, maybe)

OK - a little more post whistle progress:

Completed are:
Revenant King
Undead Standard Bearer
Necromancer Lord
Female Necromancer
30 Ghouls
30 Skeletons with hafted weapons and shield
25 Skeletons with spear & shield
15 Skeletons with swords & shield
20 Undead Revenant Regiment
20 Undead Revenant Regiment
3 Balefire Catapult
5 Undead Wraiths (+ an extra Banshee (Reaper)
5 Revenant Knights (mounts to be finished)

Nearly complete and ready for varnishing are:
20 Undead Revenant Regiment
20 Skeletons with swords & shield

Not so done (only undercoated and/or partly painted):
Malak, Vampire Lord on Pegasus

From the original pledge, Only Malak remains to be done, and only the revenant's from the 'Extras'.

I have not done too well on the photos, but will try by the weekend

And finally, some pics of the final thing:

The completed troops, less the ghould (did not notice until I had packed them away)

Necromancer

Skeleton commands

A skeleton regiment

Black Knights

Revenant King and Female Necromancer

Battle Standard bearer with the Screaming Banner

Banshee and her chaperones

Catapults

Revenants

Photo's came out not too bad in the end, although my camera is not ideal for close work - it thinks it knows better where it should be focussing :-D

Hi Molochai

I used this one. I particularly like the floating nature of the mini. I am also very pleased with how she came out

Banshee

A couple I was considering as alternatives:

Other banshee

Another near miss

Another I considered

I also considered the female wood elf Spellsingers, particularly the 'Wood Elf Female Spellsinger, Casting.

I have also used 'MC16 - The mirror of Galadriel' from the Mithril LotR range, which can be found here:
Mithril Classics page
