The tunnel entrance burst open, a flood of Vermin Guard taking up positions around it within moments of its opening, their Warpstone halberds at the ready. An observant watcher could see that their blades faced not only outwards, but also in, back towards the tunnel they had just left. In a bubble of space created by the wary Vermin Guard, Rask emerged, the rest of his escort following close behind. A pair of Grey Seers ensured that he had no chance of skitterleaping away, the ever pragmatic skaven themselves prepared to do the same should the vampire overcome their protectors.
In the centre of this, Rask was rapidly becoming annoyed. His army was many miles to the north now, and no doubt the Council of Thirteen were seeking it out in order to destroy it. The dead, to them, would be more of a liability than an aid against Nagash.
With their prisoner still making no attempt to escape, the Vermin Guard quickly crested the first rise. They moved quickly, for this close to Nagashizzar there was little chance they could go unobserved for long. The twin spires of Cripple Peak could be seen rising on the horizon, and while they were still some distance from the fortress itself, the Desolation of Nagash was full of dangers, as well as servants of the Dark Lord himself.
Below them lay a canyon, a river winding its way across the land far below their feet. Even from this height, it was easy to see that the river had been tainted by warpstone, and around its edge lay the scattered bones and corpses of a myriad of creatures.
Rask was quickly shoved to the front. The captain of the Vermin Guard, his features set, gestured for the prisoner to go first. With a glance of disdain for the ropes being lowered for that very purpose, Rask stepped forward, falling nearly ten metres before landing on an outcrop of rock. After a moment's consideration, he leapt again.
Grinning, Rask heard the frantic sounds as the Vermin Guard attempted to catch up with their fast moving prisoner. That grin quickly became a scowl as he sensed magic surge behind him, and a pair of Vermin Guard materialised on the ledge below. When he landed, they leapt forward and seized him, forcing the vampire to wait as the rest of the skaven force caught up.
A few minutes later, the captain of the Vermin Guard stepped forward.
"Do not-not try that again. You will go-go first, but slowly, or we will ignore the Council's instructions and leave you here dead-dead. Understood?"
Without waiting for a response, the captain gestured and the ropes were lowered to the next ledge. Rask clambered down the ropes, just ahead of the Vermin Guard behind him. As he reached the landing and began to peer down to see where he would have to go next, he sensed movement behind him. Only his instincts saved him, even as he ducked a blade swept through the air where his head had been a moment before.
Rolling to one side, Rask rose in time to see two of the Vermin Guard following him tumble screaming to their deaths, sliced in half by his attacker. The attacker in question was a skaven, but massive. Obviously under the effects of warpstone, the skaven now towered nearly the height of a man-thing, its chest and arms rippling with massive muscles. In its right hand it clutched a glowing green blade that Rask immediately assumed was the Fellblade, while the fingers on its left hand had fused together, the nails growing into a long, sharp blade of bone.
Turning away from the Vermin Guard, most of which were now scurrying back up the ropes as fast as they could, the massive beast turned to face Rask, and grinned.

Rask ducked beneath the blow, his preturnatural speed and reflexes getting him out of the way just in time. This enhanced skaven was nearly as fast as Rask himself, which stunned the vampire skaven. Before this, few had been able to match him in terms of sheer speed, but this being was coming close, and given the close quarters of the ledge they were fighting on, his opponent didn't need to be all that much faster to win.
Backing away, Rask nearly toppled over the edge of the ridge. The mutant skaven drew back its arm, about to strike and take advantage of the vampire's moment of distraction. Before its blow landed however, it whirled and struck at something behind it. A gargled scream indicated that another Vermin Guard had attempted to strike down the Fellblade's holder from behind, but the distraction had given Rask an opportunity.
With a screech he threw himself on the huge mutant, one hand grasping a spike of bone jutting through the creature's skin. With a savage yank he pulled it free, and makeshift weapon in hand began to stab holes in the back of the skaven.
The monster gave a ear-piercing screech, full of rage and pain, as the skin of its back was torn and mutilated. It was far from beaten however. A savage shake sent Rask flying, and in a flash it was standing over him, Fellblade poised to spit the annoying vampire and send it to its final death.

As the mutant's blow fell, Rask sensed the Seer's release their wards preventing him from accessing his magic. Without pausing to wonder at his sudden good fortune, he raised one hand and spat out a series of frenzied syllables. Warp Lightning blasted from his fingertips, slamming into the mutant's body. The creature danced like a puppet, every limb flying out wide, as energy coursed through its body. Then finally, it collapsed.
Scrambling back to his feet, Rask saw immediately why the Grey Seer's wards had failed. A flock of carrion had descended upon the Vermin Guard, aiming for the seers. The squabbling creatures had torn the physically weak skaven limb from limb in short order. And now the Vermin Guard were falling. Ordinarily they would be able to deal with such fragile foes with little effort, but even as they fought their blows became weaker. Several collapsed, their white fur falling out in patches, and Rask sensed the presence of Necromancy.
More and more of the elite skaven were falling as they aged rapidly before the vampire's very eyes. However, Rask was not going to let such a valuable resource go to waste. He stretched out his necromantic powers, which had grown since he had consumed Lesa's blood. Skaven skeletons rose amongst the Vermin Guard ranks, warpstone blades in hand, and turned on their allies. With the rest of the guard quickly slain, Rask reanimated their corpses as well, and ordered his new wights to dive into the river below. A number would undoubtedly shatter on impact, but he hoped enough would survive, even from this height, to be useful for him later.
The Necromantic presence was coming closer, and Rask recognised a force he lacked the power to face. Bending down, he wrenched his prize, the Fellblade, from the grip of the fallen mutant, and leapt after his new servants.
If he escaped, then he would only have to worry about one more thing. How to rejoin the Vampire Council.
