Night was beginning to fall when the coach arrived at the desolate ruin known as the Red Abbey. Though it been abandoned long before there was a hive of activity around it. The coach stopped outside to be met by Lucius. Simon stepped out "I'm glad to see you made it in time Lucius." he said looking up at the moon. From his position it looked like Morrslieb was settled over the abbey. Lucius nodded "We convinced Saul to come and join us. He's with the others. We've drawn quite a crowd family members have been gathering from all over. The Baron has been keeping them in line."

"I'll bet he has." Simon murmured "This is going to be a very important event. One for the history books no doubt."

Mircea’s bat form flew up to the top of the steps of the Red Abby and transformed back into human form. There he was met by Jan and Luke as the undead sentries shuffled out of his way.

It had been a few days of travel as he met back up with his Black Coach outside the city, when night fell he transformed and flew the rest of the way.

‘’How long I was from this place, it looks like it’s gotten busy.’’ Mircea remarked.

‘’Indeed, the Count has moved troops here to protect the place while the ritual goes ahead.’’ Luke said, indicating the massive skeleton and wight garrison around the Abby.

‘’Excellent,’’ Mircea looked up, at the huge twin moons. ‘’It looks like it’s going to begin soon.’’ he remarked

Up ahead, on the Abby’s crumbling tower, the form of the Shade sat on the ledge, overlooking the Carsteins, Mircea spotted him and he waved back, the Marshal ignored him.

Lesa stretched the fatigue from her perfect body as she regarded the ruined Red Abbey. She still felt unhappy about leaving the rest of the Council, and had a feeling that the repercussions of Simon's actions were going to be hard to repair. Still she was hear now......

"So what is the plan now?" she asked Simon as she walked over, "or more to the point what am I to do?"

Simon glanced over at Lesa "Well first perhaps you'd care to dine with Sariah and myself. We still have a few hours until everything will be ready and as for the ritual you won't have to do anything except enjoy the show and give me a round of applause when it succeeds."

Saul stood away from the other assembled von Carsteins, staring up at the black night sky and the baleful glow of Morrslieb; lost in silent contemplation. He hadn't been able to shake off the nagging insecurities that he had felt during the journey from Nuln, his flawed conscience was telling him that it was okay to have regrets and a few doubts, after all it was only human... but then again, He wasn't human.

But right now he certainly felt human.

Worse than that; He felt like a child in the face of a storm, alone and disorientated.

Akarin strode towards Simon, the assassin once more garbed in his usual black leather armour with his hood pulled up which threw his features into shadow, having traveled via his own favoured shadowy arts he had arrived before the coachs.
Behind him three similarly garbed vampires followed.

With a low bow to Simon he spoke

"My Lord, the Baron awaits you...he is most..ah...enthused after hearing of your success."

"Then let me know when dinner is ready," Lesa replied to Simon, "I truly hope you know what you are doing, for once this has happened there is no going back...." Without waiting for a response Lesa walked off wrapped in her own thoughts, nearly colliding with Saul who was stood there watching the proceedings with an unhappy expression.

"You look how I feel," she finally said after a moment, a bitter smile on her lips, "the machinations of the Carsteins tend to have that effect don't they?"

Simon smiled as Lesa walked away though he felt some apprehension. Turning to Akarin he said "Take me to Karl then Akarin we have some things to discuss." Akarin nodded and led Simon inside.

Inside Karl stood with a number of other vampires, seemingly arguing amongst each other and at the Baron as he stood silently with his arms crossed.

Noticing Akarin and Simon approaching he clapped his hands loudly;
"Enough! Take your complaints elsewhere, I have more important matters to attend to!" he declared coldly.

The lesser von Carsteins muttered but left quickly, not even bothering to take notice of Simon nor Akarin.

As Simon reached Karl the elder vampire smiled;
"Damned thin-blooded idiots, they bring every minor worry here and expect me to magic it better!"

Turning to Akarin the Baron frowned
"Take your men and keep tabs on the less enjoyable of our family, ensure they do nothing stupid."

The Assassin bowed deeply before leaving silently.

Turning his attention back to Simon he strode closer a broad grin on his face, clapping the other vampire on the shoulder he laughed;
"I hear you where successful! Tell me, did you happen to ensure that the lesser council members would not be attending?"

"Oh you need not worry about them Karl." replied Simon with a grin. "I imagine they'll be up to their necks in trouble with mortals and Lahmians." He looked around "everything seems to be going as planned on your side I must say. This business with Ruby had me worried that we wouldn't get here in time."

The two vampires walked through the Abbey arriving in the central tower. Drakenhof guard lined the walls keeping an unsleeping vigilance. In the centre of the great chamber lay one of the great vessels constructed from pure warpstone. It was fashioned to resemble a great sarchophagus covered in markings and ornamental designs. It stood upright and towered over Simon as he approached to examine it. "Exquisite!" murmered Karl as Simon placed his hand on a strangely shaped slot presumebly where the Ruby was meant to go. "Yes isn't it." said Simon turning to face Karl "Is Mircea here yet? I wanted to invite you both to dine with me and Sariah before we begin."

''I am here'' Mircea said from behind them, stepping into the room. ''I arrived shortly ago by air, I was simply taking a glance on the rooftops''

"Excellent." Karl said, his eyes glinting with cold amusement at Simon's words a few moments before Micrea entered.

Karl nodded as the Marshal spoke before turning his gaze back to Simon;
"My Emilie has arrived also and Ademus is keeping most of the families Magi in line." Karl said with a faint frown.

Saul bit back the angry rebuke when he saw who had collided with him.. the Lahmian, bloody marvelous. He struggled for a moment to rearrange his features into something less than a scowl, a venture doomed to fail.

"I am sure that someone, somewhere, will be mightily pissed off with our dear Count right now; but I care not for his scheming.. it's what von Carsteins do best. Besides I've seen my fair share of backstabbing and betrayal from my Sire back in the days when I still bore the von Carstein name and him and I were a family united with my siblings."

Saul's tone wasn't exactly friendly, off all the people in the world that he wanted to talk to right now, the Lahmian wasn't one of them but something inside felt like it needed to talk and Saul wasn't about to let an oppotunity to lessen tensions between himself and the Lahmian to go begging.

"No. It isn't the deed that discomforts me, more like the place. This place is disgusting and rotten from the deep soil to the clouds. Everything here stinks of death and decay, nothing here has the will to live. The winds of Shyish and Ulgu run stronger here than I have ever felt them anywhere else and it disturbs me."

A grim smile played across his lips for a moment.

"And I'm concerned about Trinity, wherever she's got to.. socialising probably." He gestured to the collected von Carstein family, "This is not the best company for her to mingle amongst, especially not so young."

Saul trailed off, for the first time actually noticing the Lahmian before him. He could see the anguish written behind her eyes even as she tried to conceal it. To lose someone the way she had.. he tried not to think about it. He lowered his voice so as to make it unheard to those how might stray close enough to hear.

"Do not hate him. The one that took your husband from you.. don't hate him."

"I'm glad to hear it Karl." said Simon seriously "It'll be nice to have a few more females around here. Sariah can get very lonely at times. I'm going to have to allow my boys to sire themselves mates." As Mircea joined them Simon continued "I have a few associates of my own here from Altdorf to witness the resurrection of their god and to provide assistance. Once we've dined I suggest we summon everyone so that I can give my final speech to the family as its head."

"That sounds most agreeable." Karl said with a nod before turning to frown as a young vampire ran up the steps to whisper something in the Baron's ear before running off again.

Karl raised an eyebrow;
"You brought the Lahmian?" he asked with surprise.

"Do not refer to Lesa as the Lahmian Karl!" Simon corrected his uncle. "Lesa may be descended from Neferata but she was exiled from that family long before either of us existed and when she married one of us she automatically became part of our family." Simon wandered over to the sarchophagus "If it makes you both feel better." he said looking back at Karl and Mircea "Lesa is the most powerful wizard here and she is with us where you can keep an eye on her and not with the council."

Karl raised an eyebrow;
"Her loyalties do not change her distasteful bloodline...nor do I see how her being a powerful wizard would put me at ease." the Baron said sounding faintly amused.
With a frown he shrugged slightly
"I just feel that she would side with the Council over you...us if it came to it, she just wants this ritual to work to help against Nagash." he said, his voice tinged with distaste.

Turning Karl strode a short distance away to fetch his cane before turning around and smiling
"Still I trust your judgement." he said "Now...dinner?"

"Not hate him?" Lesa answered, a cold look in her eyes, "and what would you expect me to do? Forgiveness? Would you forgive any who took Trinity, experimented on her, turned her into a monster, and then had her attack you? Would you forgive someone who forced you to kill Trinity, better than have her live life controlled by Nagash?" She shook her head, before looking back at Saul. Within her eyes the her rage shone unmasked, like the fires of hell made all the worse by the aura of power surrounding her.

"I am beyond hate. I will destroy Nagash and his followers if I have to tear them apart with my bare hands. That is the reason I am here. I believe that Simon's plan could work, and for that he has my support. I just pray that it does work, and that the Council understands. The only thing I believe he did wrong was leaving the rest of the Council to take the fall in Nuln, rather than including in his plans. I do not think they will be forgiving this time."

"Whether they forgive me or not is irrevelent Lesa!" said Simon emerging "and if you think I'm consulting that ignorant bastard Vekarin on bringing back my grandsire you've got another thing coming. He's been getting more and more unstable. Its safer this way." He came closer "Now its time for dinner. You can come too Saul and bring your lady along as well."

Mircea watched as Lesa and the other bickered among themselves. He himself could care less about her hatred or aims. He could care less about the feast, he simply wanted to revive Vlad as soon as possible.

‘’What rather twisted logic he has’’ remarked the Shade as he leant behind Mircea. ‘’Does Simon honestly think that Lesa thinks of herself as a Carstein?’’ he asked.

''I care little for most, except for Peter, he was loyal after all, one should reward loyalty. I did not really see much tactical advantage in leaving the Council behind, although I do not care much if we brought them ethier'' Mircea said.

Karl arrived last, having sent a message for Emilie to join him, stopping he blinked as he realised there was some sort of argument taking place.

Turning he strode up to Micrea speaking in a quiet tone;
"What are the arguing about now? And where's Peter, I assume he is here somewhere."

''No, he is not here'' Mircea said. ''We were seperated at the Palace, I tried to get him to come with me, however he seemed more concerned with the other members of the council rather than myself or his leige lord''

Karl tutted slightly as he tapped his cane against the ground;
"Unfortunate, I had thought him to be a better trained Soldier than that."
With a shrug that Baron glanced away;
"Still perhaps that is still a link to the council...if we require it."

Saul glared at the Lahmian, the faintest sneer crept across his features for a moment before it was gone.. the person who said ignorance was a virtue has obviously never met Miss Cromwell.. but the arrival of Count Simon prevented him from pursuing the matter further. Instead Saul nodded in gratitude for the offer of dinner, he bowed slightly before backing away.

"Then if you'll excuse me" He threw a withering glance sideways at the Lahmian, "I will go and attend to my Lady."

Saul turned and walked away.

Lesa looked after Saul as he walked away. Another arrogant Carstein whose ego outstripped his thinking capability. Turning to Simon she simply shrugged her shoulders,

"Of course that is your choice Simon," she answered, "he is your grandsire after all. But I still think there could have been a chance that Vashanesh could have been resurrected without breaking apart the Council. I know nothing in this world will never make you admit it, but if the remainder of the Council do decide to interfere, the do represent a potent force, one that we really could do without considering the current climate."

She paused for a moment, knowing that likely her words were having little to no effect. Of all the Carsteins she trusted Simon the most. He had after all done everything he could to make her feel welcome, though perhaps her power may have had something to do with that, but there had been no denying he had tried his hardest to save Milosh. But he was still at base a Carstein, and having him admit he could be threatened by anything, especially another vampire, was a waste of time.

"Well this discussion is moot anyway. Let us have this meal, and then I look forward to seeing the magic you are going to perform Simon."
