Another one I had an idea for at work. Basically a beefed up Spirit Host, which I think makes a more viable choice:

Wraithwisps - 85pts per base
These dreaded creatures are amongst the most frightening under Nagash’s control. Unlike the paltry swarms of mewling spirits that the follow the armies of necromancers and vampires, these are truly the shades of death. They are the souls of killers, torturers and rapists plucked from the deepest levels of hell, and they return to attack the living with unrivalled hate.

M 6 / WS 3 / BS 0 / S 4 / T 4 / W 4 / I 3 / A 4 / Ld 6

Equipment
Ethereal Hand Weapons

Special Rules
Undead
Ethereal
Terror

Tortured Souls
Just as they were in death, these shades are full of rage and anger. They hate the living even more so and exact their revenge in an unending orgy of bloodshed.
The Wraithwisps have the Frenzy and Hatred special rules. Such is their anger they may re-roll to hit in every round of combat, plus they can never loose their Frenzy or Hatred.

Comments?

I think these will work, deffinatly a more viable option then spirit hosts. I think killing blow might work well on them as well, though it might be to powerful considering normally only heros will be able to hurt them and killing blow would kill the heros.

Mmmmmm, I don't think Killing blow would be fair, their already going to have 5A at S4 and WS3, re-rolling misses. I think that is quite scary enough :)
As for points, I'm not sure. I would say Spirit host + say 30ish pts, but I don't know what that would come to as I have Lost my VC Army book!! :(
Anyway though, great idea DoN, I think they'll make an excellent addition to the army.

Spirit hosts are 65 points per base so this would make them 95 points per base in total, your right about the killing blow it would make them to powerful.

Yeah, 80-85 points seems about right.

Now i'm just going to be a bit picky
I don't think it would be phrased like this "an unending orgy of bloodshed" in a GW armybook (but this isn't going to be a GW armybook :) and i'm not complaining). Being really picky you forgot the full stop after the quoted line xD

Amended and I have also updated the post. I'm surprised how little discussion there has been on this one, did I manage to think something up that wasn't absurd or over powered? xd

Looks good. A bit lacking in the killing power department IMO, but then again I'm not sure if they are meant to have much killing power in the first place.

Hi Hip Hooray!! xd

@ Sweeney - I think it could be quite nasty. Say 3 bases against a standard core unit. That's 15 re-rollable S4 attacks, plus chances are the poor enemy unit wouldn't be able to hurt them.

What, 5 re-rollable S4 attacks each aint good enough for ya? Not to mention that most enemies will run away from them. And that those who don't (ItP or immune to Terror) probably either cannot him them (no magic items), or will cost 3 times as much (uber lord of death). I think they can RIP AND TEAR quite enough as it is, after all their ghosts, not chainsaws!

Oh, pick me!! :p

I got an issue.

The "Hate the Living" rule should have something to specify the the Frenzy and Hatred only applies to units that are living... (somehow - has no effect when fighting against units which are undead, daemons, animated, constructs, etc.. I dunno how to word this).

Also, would seem a bit odd if taken along side several of your own armies living units.

Points-wise and such, seems okay...

Armour piercing is actually fluff justifiable, the blade would pass through their armour and bite into the flesh. With the hate the living rule, keep it the way it is, they are undead, in the heat of battle would you really go,

"Oh, I don't hate this guy as much as the other. I'll give him some slack."

They are crazed tortured souls, not the type to identify one victim from another.

Mmmm, i would say that the Hatred an Frnzy affects all units, after all as Arion says they do not discriminate. However I still wouldn't add AP in there. Using the sentence: 'blade would pass through their armour and bite into the flesh' then surely that would mean they ignored all armour saves, and as that would be ridiculous, i say leave as is.

Yeah I've got to agree with Marcus. I think giving them AP would make the too powerful for their points, and I don't think they should be made more expensive.

I also think they would not discriminate in battle so Hate for the Living rule should be left as it is.
