So, Age of Sigmar is released. And it really is round bases!
Does anyone else think, those empire units looks like a fantasy version of spacemarines?

How will AoS affect your warhammer hobby?

I think they are space marines. They're even called Sigmarines...

Anyways, I hope it encourages new players to get in the game and the more I read the rules, the less bad they are and the more they make sense. Are their holes that will be exploited, yes, but overall I don't think many people will do that or they won't have anyone to play with. I also like that every army got a new codex and they are all free. Hell, even the White Dwarf came with a free model. It will take some getting used to, but overall I think it will help and games should be shorter.

As far as VC goes, every army now has crumble and VC has the best version of it!!!

The "sigmarines" are called the Stormcast Eternals. They are the souls of dead humans, ascended to the celestial realm and granted immortality by Sigmar. They descend into battle on divine lightning and when the die, they are reborn in the Sigmar's realm and lose a bit more of their remaining humanity and memory of their past life. Very epic and awesome.

I played the game today. All of us were blown away at the complexity in it. I can honestly say that Age of Sigmar is worth playing and has a lot to offer Fantasy players. Its tactics are more complex than Warhammer Fantasy Battles. Seriously. I plan to do a write up on the specifics when I have more time, but trust me and go play it. Pay attention to deployment, movement, position and order you pick your combats. There is a lot going on in those 4 pages of rules.

Great to see some commenting on the new "edition" xD

Random question that I have to come to my vampiric brethren for; does anyone know what the star on certain attack profiles means?? For instance, our zombie dragons to wound stat is a star while our zombie dragon gets *star* number of attacks with it's claws.

Please shed some light on this and continue to give me your thoughts.

Usually, bigger stuff like monsters or monstruous Heroes, get to decay in their performance as they are damaged. This mechanic is nice, since you won't be wasting shots at big stuff, but not killing it.

Like najo said, we'll be working towards adressing as much as possible from the vampire Counts and maybe Tomb Kings too (since Undead Legions brought our family together =P) with basic combos (what General's Command Ability synergizes well with what units), just to have some clarity and not having to check the warscrolls every time.

=D

all this look like heroclix the more i read it... and the no point system look like a way to force people into buying more and more stuff (is it written anywhere that hero are unique ? can i have 2 or 3 Nagash on the table ??)... there's lot's of issue within the rules, lot's of hole and loophole, so far i'm not impressed. I'll try a game or two to see how it goes.

To do that would not be in the spirit of the game, which relies a lot more on social interaction and good sportsmanship. If you attempted to do that you'd just find people refusing to play you. I think they leave some things, like that, just to common sense.

While I really like some things, I just can't get friends with the army assembling. I agree with @Banat that there is need of using common sense, but this won't work forever and especially it won't work for tournaments and stuff. And I really can't imagine, where those 12 year old kids, to whom those rules like "scream waaagh and get a +2 attack roll" are targeted obviously, will get the money for such an expensive hobby...

Most of GW's money is from 11-14 year old kids wanting to be the space marines, regardless of the sales numbers, there simply aren't as many space marine players as it would suggest. Most are kids who think "oh these are the badass ones!" have their parents dumb $500 on an army then get through 3 pages of rules and give up playing.

Age of sigmar is seeking to fix this, by making the rules easy for them to digest quickly, hoping for more whipped parent purchases by the kids who actually play the game. Still wont work though, sure they'll sell the sigmarines, but the kids still gonna default to call of duty in a week.

Edit @Banat Your idea of common sense, my idea of common sense, and GW's idea of common sense will be wildly different. Judging someone because they don't agree with your interpretation exactly is ridiculous. There needs to be far more common ground to stand on. You look like the bad player with no friends in a group even more conservative about the rules then you are.

The owner of my local shop and another guy were playing a game of Age of Sigmar when I went in yesterday for a game of 40k. It seemed like it took up more room than the statlines used to. They had the entire counter covered in warscrolls so they had access to all of the abilities and stuff their models had. Now i'm sure that that will wane as people start to learn their armies more, but I feel like they might release cards like they have in WarmaHordes, and if they don't I almost feel like they should to help lessen the conglomeration of paper.

All said and done, I'm not very impressed with it. I'll probably try to keep playing eighth edition while I build up my Chaos Space Marines.

I have to admit, I have little to add, I haven't played Ao$ yet and unless I get a quiet week or two I probably won't commit the time to do so for a while, but I must say the Warscroll cards aound like an excellent idea; money for GW and quality gamimg aids for us, there's a reason why the existing cards are ao popular! If I can get myself in gear I'll just print my scrolls and rules and make up an A4 plastic wallet, book style folder; a mate of mine did this for Dropzone at the weekend and it worked really well.

I've had chance to play AoS twice in the last 2 days (usuallyI'd only play one game of WHFB/40K a week) and I actually found it quite fun. Once was against a friend who has always wanted to field dragon only High Elves and the other was against my brother's Orcs (which he brought years ago but he hated fantasy so never said anymore about it) The three of us did very much enjoy AoS and while myself and my friend will likely play 8th alongside it, we will still play it by choice.

Also I for one actually relish the lack of balance, in both situations I purposefully took what would be a weaker army than my opponent and I used tactics to overcome my friend by splitting his army apart and maneuvering my general to break line of sight to his shooting since he picked the assassinate thing and it was a thrilling and tense battle despite being less than an hour. Against my brother I did kinda let him win by avoiding summoning too many zombies, his casting and unbinding rolls were quite poor until the last 2 turns so if I'd kept bolstering my zombies it would have been a lot closer or in my favour. Although was funny when we charged our wizards past the combat to fight in a challenge and my necromancer's zombie shield was hilarious, I just imagined the funny ways they'd jump in the way or stuff XD but I'm digressing, the point is, I'm one of those people who does like to have the odds stacked against me and to overcome that with tactics, I also love fluffy games, as do a number of my friends so its easy to set up a scenario or throw together a fairly balanced game.

I'm gonna take mine to a professional printers down the road and get it bound properly, have the rules and some of the warscrolls I'm most likely to use/face, should look quite decent.

Also, apparently army books WILL be sold. Individual rules will be available online but the book will contain additional background and lots of pretty pictures. However these will.likely be the NEW factions. Can't wait to see me some New undead!

lol surely you don't expect them to directly compare themselves to anybody but themselves? Its a good price alongside dark vengeance. that's really what they mean. Also some kind of.comp is out, confirmed source as gw. Its mediocre at best as it suggests only one hero which would mean you have one wizard to cast one spell a turn. Fine for us with Nagash but in fairness to others its pants...

I have already played a battle of AoS with my dwarf friend, and since I am in possesion of Nagash he auto lost a game, and we see no way he can win against him with his current range of models. Therefore I think AoS is not funny at all, because my buddy cannot win with me unless i refuse to field my best model.

I don't know what you were reading but they aren't comparing themselves, its an independant website saying its a VERY (all caps) good price. Its not, its actually a premium starter set compared to its competitors, its actually worse priced than Dark Vengeance which is £10 less and has 2 more models, so its not even very well priced against itself.
