"That one's risen from the grave so often his coffin's got a revolving lid."

Disciple of Nagash Invoked, and here I am, making my... third? fourth? introduction post? For a fella who hates introducing himself I don't half end up doing it a lot. Anyhoo, the precis. I have been playing Vampire Counts for as long as there's been a Vampire Counts army to play; started out...

WHFB - 6th The Maven & The Witch - a single player narrative campaign

Season of the Witch 1200 / 600 points | Rear Guard | Wood Elves vs. Vampire Counts My original plan for this one was to stage a nice big climactic Ambush scenario, but then I actually bothered to read the rules for that one and realised it was built for a 6′ by 4′ table; I could only get away...

    Playable Vampires in Online Games

There was to be an MMO, but it fell apart and the IP was sold to Paradox - but they are doing a battle royale game of all things. Seems a weird choice for Masquerade and a bit late for the bandwagon, but it might be decent. If it actually comes out. VtM computer games are a bit cursed at the moment.

WHFB - 6th The Maven & The Witch - a single player narrative campaign

A Maven's Folly 600 / 1200 points | Woodland Ambush | Wood Elves vs. Tomb Kings The Premise The woods were waking up. Slow, sluggish, breathing deep and laboured in the perpetual cold, but clawing their way to life and fury, answering the Maven’s call. Her allies had answered, better late than...

What other Warhammer forums are out there?

The Middlehammer Forum was basically dead on arrival (that group likes Facebook too much) but Classichammer is out there - it's tiny but the people who talk talk a lot. The fella who used to run The Warhammer Forum is back in the game too. I keep meaning to bug him again about archive material...

    Total War Warhammer

I gave them a go when the game first dropped, and again when Gor-Rok arrived. Never finished a campaign. They're OK, I suppose? I don't really like the Rampage mechanic and they're built around managing that. Gor-Rok and Kroak are quite fun for sheer "BLOW IT ALL UP" potential but I already have...

    Playable Vampires in Online Games

If the multiplayer mod for Skyrim ever gets off the ground, you can bet your bottom dollar I'm going full Volkihar. Not sure if Elder Scrolls Online lets you be vampirised but I'd assume so?

What edition of WHFB was your favourite and why?

There's a lot that I dislike about eighth edition but I did have fun with it at smaller points levels, and much like fourth I think it could have been refined into something genuinely better once all the new rules had been widely tested. A lot of the things you suggest are the biggest pain...

WHFB - 6th The Maven & The Witch - a single player narrative campaign

Grave Disorder Warhammer Skirmish | Vampire Hunt | Wood Elves vs. Von Carsteins The Hacks I compressed the battlefield down to 2 feet square, as before; removed the attackers’ supporting troops, as injury rolls have a tendency to bloat and delay the Skirmish experience and I didn't have infinite...

WHFB - 6th The Maven & The Witch - a single player narrative campaign

Ghosts In The Fog Warhammer Warbands (200 points) | A Little War | Wood Elves (Hold Territory) vs. Vampire Counts (Invade!) The Premise Grimgroth opened his eyes. Was it time? Had the bell been rung, its doleful peal sounding the Time of Ending? He swung slowly off his graven slab and took up...

WHFB - 6th The Maven & The Witch - a single player narrative campaign

Late last year, in the Christmas lockdown, I started painting a new WFB army. After having a great deal of fun being Drycha in Total Warhammer II, and all the minor trauma I received years ago from the "new" Wood Elf army book at the tail end of sixth edition, and wanting a change from my...

    8th Ed, Holy War

... and I'm caught up. Whoof! I might have spent the last four days reading through your blog before work, and then thought to come back and check this thread in case it had somehow drifted ahead. And it had - with a truly spectacular bang. I confess I'd wondered if this would be the end for...

WHFB - 8th Army List: The Master & Margarita

Perhaps! This one is held in the back pocket in case I meet anyone who urgently wishes to play eighth and only eighth; there are no immediate plans to play it but one never knows what might happen.

WHFB - 8th Army List: The Master & Margarita

Lords The Master - Master Necromancer - magic level 4, Talisman of Endurance, Feedback Scroll Heroes Margarita di Maddaloni - Vampire - shield, Biting Blade, Nightshroud, Beguile, Summon Creatures of the Night, Dark Acolyte Cora - Banshee Clarice - Banshee Core Company of the Black Eagle...

WHFB - 6th Battle Report: Lord Ruthven's Reanimation (3000 / 2000 points | Reclaim The Stones | Vampire Counts vs. Empire)

Yeah - it's a funny one because unlike the Ambush or Last Stand (where charging for a weak point in the attacking line is a good idea, breaking out of the trap), Reclaim the Stones forces you to stay in the middle and hold. Joseph only had the one proper wizard, too, so he wasn't necessarily...

    Total War Warhammer

2000 hours in and it's safe to say I don't hate these games... Obviously I played the Vampire Counts to death in the first one, can't say I really clicked with any other faction. I wanted to like Norsca, but they're just a bit too brittle for me. Going into the second, hoo, let's see... I...

WHFB - 6th Battle Report: Lord Ruthven's Reanimation (3000 / 2000 points | Reclaim The Stones | Vampire Counts vs. Empire)

My second engagement on the eve of Nineteen Crows was something equally eccentric, and this time I have slightly more adequate notes. Joe had suggested Reclaim the Stones, a scenario from the Albion campaign: always keen to skip out the Borehammer, I’d accepted his vulgar challenge. Although I...

WHFB - 6th Battle Report: A Wrong Turn at Zavastra (3000 points | Breakthrough | Vampire Counts vs. Kislev)

Just before all this malarkey with Nineteen Crows kicked off last year, I was in London for the London Book Fair, and even though that was cancelled I took the chance to play some socially-distanced no-handshakes Warhammer at the new Dark Sphere ‘megastore’ in Shepherd’s Bush. Also risking life...

What edition of WHFB are you playing?

Mostly sixth, with the occasional detour into fifth edition when someone must revisit the Herohammer of their youth. (I was absolute rubbish at fifth, I think I lost six out of seven games, all of them to High Elves... High Magic, kids, it'll beat you to paste and take your lunch money and leave...

Circle of Blood Campain Pack - 5. Edition - Update of Undead Player's Battle Scroll

Bit late now, but since I wrote the original I feel I should have a crack at this. In general the approach I'd take to VC-ifying the Circle of Blood lists is more "find and replace" than anything. Dire Wolves are a reasonable substitute for Skeleton Horsemen. "Any number of units of Ghosts" I...
