How do you know I haven't been longing for something different for a long time? Maybe now that WHFB is no longer officially supported, I can encourage other players to start playing different (and IMO better) games.
Warthrone seems like a neat game, but it's not for me because I prefer a more...
I had a look at Warthrone, and IMO there is just WAY TOO MUCH going on. A good rule system is complex without being complicated. Warthrone is very complicated.
I know you said they'll feel like 'counts as' models, but using your existing army in Kings of War sounds like the perfect solution to your problem. The KoW background is vague enough that you can really build just about any sort of story you want in it. Heck, you could do a little write-up...
I guess it all comes down to what sort of game people want to play. I want to play massed battle games. Huge regiments and monsters on large battlefields. My other favourite game is Hail Caesar, and while even the base rules directly accommodate large regiments, I play it in 1:72 scale to get...
It's natural to feel defensive and afraid when you perceive attacks to something you're invested in.
And it's natural to interpret peoples opinions of something as an attack, when that opinion isn't the same as yours. It's a natural instinct to say "No, you're wrong, and here's why..."
Having...
On the one hand, I shed no tears for the competitive gamers. I largely agree with Jervis's old article and the general 'vibe' from GW that taking the competitive side of the game too seriously is 'doing it wrong'.
I still don't like Age of Sigmar though.
There are hundreds, maybe thousands of...
I think even inside established groups there'll be friction. Even if it's as simple as the guys who want to play End Times stuff and those who don't. Let alone those who take the opportunity to push for their version of house rules. I might have to remember three different ways to play 8th...
Any game has a certain amount of downtime while your opponent does stuff. Sometimes that can be a few seconds, sometimes it might be longer. There are a couple of things your opponent can do during your turn in KoW, but not much. So it's really just a spectator thing. But it seems like the turns...
The problem as I see it is that, moving forward, 8th is going to splinter. Every group will have it's own interpretation of what the best elements of 8th edition where, and each player will have to argue his case with his opponent before each game as to what particular set of house rules he...
I have to admit, the only real concern I have is how one-sided the turns are. With no (or few) saves to make, no charge reactions, and barely any models to remove, players have very little to keep them interested during their opponents turn.
EDIT: Although having said that, the quick nature of...
Yeah, some of mantic's models haven't been the best but their rules are top-notch IMO. And since you can use whatever models you want, the fact that their in-house models are average doesn't really concern me.
So, what happens is that any time you cause a wound, you roll to try and break the enemy. You roll 2D6, add the number of wounds they've suffered so far, and try to beat their Nerve score, whatever that might be.
A unit can hang around for an indefinite period of time, regardless of how many...
There's still the Heal spell which lets your characters restore casualties. And I really like the lifeleech ability as well, giving your units a chance to add combat casualties to their ranks.
Not to mention Surge brings back our old Van Hels shenanigans, allowing us to charge in the 'magic'...
There are rules for an undead wyrm (which can be winged or not) and a zombie dragon, as well as a winged horse.
To be honest, the fact that every faction isn't a collection of special snowflake units with their own special rules is something that really appeals to me about KoW!
