The masquerade of murder returns! A new game of Vampires Amongst Us has begun. Unmask the killers, trust no one, and try to survive the night. Find out more and sign up now!
Haha. Fair. I'm just really wanting to talk about KoW but don't really have enough experience to make meaningful comments on it.
From my cursory examination, I'm thinking that using big bricks of skeletons / zombies to lock units down, and sweeping up with cavalry / vampires will be clutch...
I too am a huge fan of 8th. However I'm just far too bitter about how GW left us off to be able to enjoy it anymore. Plus the fact that it's now frozen in stone, and none of the glaring imbalances or rules issues will ever be fixed just makes it all seem so...stagnant.
Kings of War isn't...
Just to drive this point entirely home, here is a quote from the article that articulates their position without any shadow of a doubt as to where they stand.
So, something clearly needs to be done to teach players that tournament style play has its place, but it is a place well down in the...
I think there's no question that the perspective shown in this article is exactly the driving force behind these Age of Sigmar changes, and exactly why I am so fucking done with Games Workshop, and get so (I'll admit...completely irrationally) angry about the community's attempt to forge...
Let's get the negatives out of the way first:
1) the game is definitely a lot more basic than WHFB. Much of the complexity has been stripped out.
2) armybuilding is a bit bland. No granularity in unit building is one thing, but the lack of options in hero building is what really kills me.
3) the...
You're right...I was being a complete ass. Point taken.
However, since others have chimed in in this thread, and we have several threads going on the same topic, please indulge me here in making my case for why this is relevant to this topic:
As for Kings of War, my experiences with it is it...
Vampire Lord on foot/horse. On peg he loses the -1 to hit as well as -1 De, but gains fly and the ability to double/triple damage on the charge (as well as have attacks doubled or tripled against him).
Definitely considered sharpness. However, the trade off was -50% incoming damage (De 5+ to...
Haha. QFT. I enjoy that Mantic seems to be going down the route of creating a traditional high fantasy setting for their game as well. It's uncanny...almost like they had some idea that GW was heading this way haha.
I'm going to write some lists tonight and hopefully get some games in over the...
Our group took a very simple path towards balancing Age of Sigmar. It's called "just play Kings of War." Regimental fantasy mass-battle game, with tightly-written rules that were extensively beta tested by the community. Existing WHFB armies are basically plug-and-play in the system.
Vampire Lord on Peg 245
Ensorcelled Armour 35
Cursed Pharoah 145 Hero
Onyx Ring 20
Mummies (20) 170 Regiment
Brew of Haste 15
Skeleton Horde (40) 150 Horde
Fire Oil 5
Revenant Cavalry (10) 170 Regiment
Brew of Sharpness 45
Total = 1,000
Not sure if I want Sharpness on the VL over the...
Looked over the KoW rulebook at lunch. Really liking it. Hits all the high notes of WHFB, but significantly streamlined.
Really like that you don't need to remove models, and that counting guys in base contact is no longer a thing. Speeds things up significantly.
Magic seems a bit lacklustre...
This is an extremely weak argument. If you can rejig an allegedly "medieval-inspired" setting to add elves, undead, trolls, and dragons, then there is no justifiable reason you could not also rejig to add more female warriors represented across the line.
The bottom line is that women are...
On second thought, now that I have had my coffee, 6-12 months is aggressive. 18-24 month
I, for one, LOVE all the special rules. Question is whether there's too many of them to keep track of.
Command Ability
And He Did Say ‘War’, and the World
Did Tremble...: If Settra the Imperishable
uses this ability, you must hold out your
hand and utter ‘War’ in a supremely
commanding tone. If you do, then until
your next hero phase you can add 1 to all
hit rolls for Death units in your army...
VC warscroll is pretty garbage.
TK warscroll on the other hand is AMAZEBALLS. Looks like so much fun. Swimming in synergy, and silly/awesome rules. I'm actually super excited to get games in.
I will need to start something absolutely different to get my competitive kicks in. But this looks...
On the plus side, I can drop my ever-crumbling facade of optimism.
The rules are wacky, silly, and completely unbalanced. I would say unbalanceable. There isn't even a game here, just a mechanism for pushing arbitrary units at each other.
I just...don't even know what to do with them.

Have fun. Direct links only, so just change the name in the title.
