I've been slogging through assembling and painting the regular mortis engine for a few months now (while also working on other projects), and I keep thinking that, essentially, it's just a guy and a reliquary. I want to boil the mortis engine down to a dude with a shoe box on a small base.

I like the effect, but why isn't the entire tire muddy, rather than just the bit that happens to be on the bottom at the moment? Thanks for sharing this; the two part stipple technique is how I do rust, so it's nice to know it works for mud too.

I wouldn't use the chariot base, I'd do the same thing I did for my Black Coach, and build a base by gluing two pieces of movement tray together (to achieve an appropriate height). I'd also look into one of the old Carrion riders as a possible wraith to ride him. I'm not sure about representing...
