Here I present for the misted vision of your rotting orbs the might that is my undead pirate army ...

First my main force of zombies (used on the field of battle, bolstered by the warriors presented next, as up to three separate regiments):

Now those who once served the Empire, though they have now served me longer and more loyally:

This poor soul still thirsts even in undeath, having a need for rum which will never leave him. The sight of his barrel seems to stir up an almost, but not quite, lost passion in the warriors by his side:

Here is the pride of the army, the mighty 'Queen Bess' (which comes in very useful during battle as it serves a second purpose, that of sharpening the wood enclosed graphite wads of the gods!):

Here are some of my Pirate Captains arriving to bring death to those ashore:

And here are my loyal, scurvy dogs in action:

For bloated corpses we found these mummies upon the shore of a Southlands' desert realm, their bellies distended with foetid gases ready to burst!

And to command this force in my absence is this vampire (same stats as Luthor). Here he is accompanied by another of my sea captains:

Now a closer look at my two most trusted captains, one still sporting the arrow that killed him ...

Now a select band of the salty, scurvy, lousy, worm riddled, maggoty, younkers ...

And finally something the enemy never seems to expect, handgunners, though why we should lay down arms that served us well in life I know not...

Looks like he just outlined everything with black. Great army, I really like the paint scheme, makes it look very cartoony! I love it! Is there anymore to it? Or maybe plans to make more?

I like it, always good to see another vamp coast player! on a side note, are you going to build a leviathan? I strongly suggest it, they are really helpfull!

hmm, a couple of ZP players popping up lately... :D i like the army, very nice look, love the guy with the barrel o' rum :)

Thanks for the comments. Arion and Gyulkus asked about painting style, Gyulkus thinking I outlined everything in black. Well, yeah, I kind of did - in that that is the end result. What I actually did, however, was use enamels, undercoat black, and then every time I paint any part I leave a little bit of black around the outside (as well as in creases and folds and indentations and what not). Though I admit sometimes I smudge and so have to neaten part of the black outline.

The cartoony look is exactly what I want - so that the figures are still easily distinguishable even when grouped in large units. Cunningly and cleverly crafted models with realistic paint jobs, inked and washed and all those techniques, look much better than mine close up, but they tend to blur into a general mass of smeared colours when standing in the old rank and files. Being a tad purblind means that I can't make out figures well on the field, and so I like to do it my way, everything emphasised, clean, exaggerated, bold, so that the individuals stand out even when en masse.

I paint all my armies in this style, though I have to admit I'm talking about armies in the last 12 years or so, the earlier ones were done more 'normally' with drybrushing and what-not, so that my very old VC army has a right mixture of styles in their, with 1980s GW figures done very differently to my current style. (Maybe I'll take some pictures of them too, to show contrasts? Painting individual bones onto a black undercoated model is time consuming, especially for a whole army, but I have done several units like that.)

Never thought of making a Leviathan, Agoz, but am thinking about it now. I like yours, a great octopus-like Kraken. (Apparently the mythical Kraken took several wildly different forms.) I wonder what shape I should make mine?

Now I'm off to read some of the other threads on this newly discovered forum.

Cool, a cartoony army.

I've to admit it isn't really VC-ish, because they do tend to be unorderly, smudgy and smeary :P

Either way, I like the concept. I guess you wanted functionality over looks.

Any way you'll be entering the Painting Competition? :D

Excellent stuff - a fantastically colourful look that suits pirates perfectly.

There seems to be a bit of a Zombie Pirate Rush i.e. two posters  so I might take some pictures of my army and post them tomorrow. I had posted some slightly blurred ones on the previous version of the forum but I'm bit better with the camera now.
