I have gone for a holiday with my mum to visit family in the eastern states of australia, and at the airport i had for the first time ever an anxiety attack.
I am currently hyperventilating and i feel really anxious and my head is feeling lightheaded and i dont know what to do.

Deep breaths; keep your mouth closed, push your tongue flat on the top of the roof of your mouth, breath in through the nose really deep, and keep doing that for awhile.

The oxygen flood causes your heart to beat slower. Try it out, take a lot of rapid, deep breaths just like I said.

I hope you are well over your panic attack by now Sanai, >hugs< I can't offer any useful advice but just to say we all will be waiting to hear you are OK.

I don't know if it helps, but apparently some people might find it reassuring to know that a panic attack isn't actually the body doing something it shouldn't do, well not exactly - it is your body trying to protect itself from something that has registered as a threat by mistake - it's effectively taking the right actions (fight of flight reactions) for the wrong reasons if that makes sense? Hope so

Once your better you can look at getting someone that knows about it to talk through with you - whatever happens, I'll keep my fingers crossed for you! >sends a crate of hugs to keep you going<

I'm prone to panic attacks myself and I know they're not fun, so I've no wish to fob you off with platitudes, but I will say that I hope it was a one-off fear of something rather than any long-term condition. Have you flown before?

Its not the flying, I have done it many times and the panic attack i was having when i posted this was my third panic attack, the first being at the airport.

Panic attacks are not fun at all. :(
If you're looking for advice, I'd have to say that what helps me is to find a quiet place. If Santa is with me, he talks to me. When i'm alone, I actually try to talk myself through it. To calm my breathing I take a deep breath and hold it. I let it out slowly, counting to ten, then do it again. I talk to myself, reminding myself I'm ok and I need to breathe.
They aren't fun, but you can survive them.
(I take zoloft to help with them too....I know medicating isn't always the answer.)

Hope you are well Sanai.
Don't have any advice that are better than those you have been given. But I would suggest you talk to someone, who knows about these things. Don't know if there is a hotline or similar in your country, where you can call and talk with someone. Which is a good place to start, if nothing else, they might direct you to the right choices of people to contact.
