How do all of you guys base your models?
I myself use this method:
1. Add Sand before spraying model
2. After model is painted, i overcoat the sand with Scorched Brown
3. Drybrush the sand Graveyard Earth
4. Lightly Drybrush the sand bleached bone (very lightly)
5. Add patches of Static Grass, the kind from GamesWorkshop called Scorched Grass
6. Paint the edges of the bases graveyard earth
So how do you guys do yours?

It depends on the model. I go by the old saying that the base makes or breaks a model. An interesting base really adds to a model, whereas a dull one has a dulling effect on the entire model as well.

To give an example, I use cork for my dwarfs to simulate rock. Not only does this make the stunties a bit taller ( ;) ), it also gives some options for a more dynamic assembly of my units. And of course, rocky landscape looks good next to dwarfs.

I always paint the edges of my bases black though. I just think that's prettiest, no matter what base we're talking about.

curently i do like this:
1) glue on sand/smal rocks(or what ever you would call the meterial a few guys at my club fetched from somewhere)
2) clog the base with chaos black
3) drybrush the base in codex gray
4) add static grass

and it end up looking something like this:

easy and effective

Me:

1. Quite coarse sand on base
2. Bestial Brown on it
3. Brown ink wash
4. Bestial Brown/Bleached Bone 50/50 drybrush
5. Lighter Bleached Bone drybrush
6. Very light Skull White drybrush
7. PVA static grass on it. I buy my static grass from a railway hobby shop as you get four times as much for the same price as a pot from GW.
8. Paint the edges of the base Bestial Brown

I've never used static grass, though sometimes my basing is a bit patchy, so perhaps I will with my new Lizardmen...

For VC, Mixed sand on base, undercoat model and base black. After model is painted, drybrush From dark grey up to light grey, then some bleached bone, finally a smidge of white, then random dollops of PVA glue watered down, going over the edges as well, dipped into green flock, gives it a good graveyard look.
The glue small detailed leaves near gravestones etc.

For other races, I will use different colours, setting, flocks etc, but I have found this to be a very good look for VC...

I start by covering the base in sand, from the beach, before spray undercoating the model, Chaos Black. I then paint it with Scorched Brown, followed by a drybrush of Bubonic Brown, then a very light drybrush of Bleached Bone. I then stick on patches of static grass.
At the moment I leave the rims of the bases black, but am considering painting them at the moment, possibly Graveyard Earth.
