I am trying a couple of different things and my ethereals just look silly on the "norm" brown earth basing color scheme. I am trying to go more for a black barren rock / earth look kind of like the moonlight scheme (for the bases) presented in this forum. Any tips on the colors? I am currently thinking it's probably chaos black or chaos black mixed in with some dark grey (forgot the darker grey's name) and then dry brush lighter greys or even white / bleached bone?

I think that ash would fit the bill for this perfectaly, it really does make a good effect,

*Goes off to scrounge up a pic for you*

I use black acrylic (the thick stuff in the big tubes that you can buy from art and craft stores), heavily diluted with a spot of glaze medium. Just slather it on. Get it thin enough and it leaves a hint of the original brown showing through. Result? Dark, peaty soil. Patches of static grass over that and we're off.

Thank you very much for the tips so far. I gave it a shot with just Chaos Black, Drybrush Codex Grey, then very very soft drybrush White. turned out "ok" I'll post some pictures by tomorow (charging batteries atm).
