Campaign Map Makers?

Anyone know of some good software (or photoshop plugins) for creating 2d maps, planets, campaigns, etc?
edit: Preferably free.

I'm on a Mac, so there are a few flying around....

If nothing else, I'd use Paint. It can create some wonderful things with photo hashing.

I would probably start with a hex sheet (Incompetech has customizable generators that create downloadable PDF format sheets in a variety of styles you can print out), then depending on the setting, either take a pencil to the page and draw something myself, or use a reference picture and try to mimic it as closely as possible. You could probably do some crazy stuff with Photoshop and transparency levels to put a grid onto an existing photo, and I wouldn't consider that easy. I know it's not a simple software solution, but it might help.
