I quit playing a long while ago, but I'm starting to get back into the hobby. I only had a few skellies and zombies painted and assembled. Along with a few heros. I have a problem though. When I played this several years ago, I was fine with the traditional red and blank vampire look. But now I'm not sure if that's what I want and I'm thinking about using a creative colour scheme. Maybe something based around white or around green. I just can't think of how to do it. Anyone have any ideas or examples of cool schemes?

White or Green? That will be tough enough. If you wanted to make them nurglesque, those would be the way to go, but white? I have yet to see a good Vamp in white Armour, and I like my vamps skin less then pure white. Vamps go hand and hand with darker tones, like deep reds or purples. Dark greens could work well, but they'd need to be pretty dark, then building up to at most Catachan Green.

Thats just my opinion though.

Generally, white is a neutral colour, but it is a bit bland. Go with an opposite to green, like red, and you'll have a great vamp if you use green on the majority of the model, and just the detail in red. I did the opposite with my Vlad.

I have been playing with the idea of using a rust orange color in my army. I don't want to do red or purple because they seem to run rampant in vampire counts armies. Plus, Orange and black would be very cool. I haven't painted anything yet as I just started this army so I don't have any pictures of the idea, sorry.

hehe orange and black, that's pretty tight. Halloween colors. You should work pumpkins into it somehow, it could end up being a pretty cool theme. A headless horseman here or there.

I am going with a yellow/black theme, with the idea that the army is based in and around Mousillon, with a variety of undead collected from throughout the Empire, Bretonnia and other lands.

I can see dark green working quite well, with the bone of Skeletons and the rotten flesh of Zombies (go for a light grey) and the pallor of the Vampires all acting as "white" and thus as a contrast. You could flip-flop the colours on Ghouls - mostly pale with green loincloths or stains on the claws or something.

I think white Undead could look quite interesting, although you'd have to decide whether you want them to be conveniently clean or dirtied white from the Grave.
If you are painting the clothe in white, then you might want to consider shifting the bone/flesh from off white to light greay as a couple of the others have suggested.

I'm going to jump on the bandwagon and say that darker colors would work better, but that doesn't mean you can't do white and green.

One option would be to paint all of your armor in bone white. I'd go with a yellow undertone, so that you could use grey-white (or purple-white) for your vampires and ghouls. (Naturally, you're ghouls would have more color than your vampire skin.) You're offset color (for cloaks, zombie clothes, and the like) could be a dark green.

Another option would be to go with a templar scheme using green and white instead of red and white. You'd probably want to dirty it up, though. On the other hand, you could start with a lighter green.

The Templar theme comes with a warning, though, as the Eberrron D&D setting has the Emerald Claw organization, which is a green and white color scheme. And they have an association with undead. You could go that way, but if you don't do it intentionally, people may still think that's what you were aiming for.

If you have a look in the undead collectors guide, you can see a unit of GG dressed in white. Me thinks if you wash the armour of your models whith badab black a couple of times, you could achieve a great undead colour scheme (making it white/green clothes and blackish armour).

Ive been having good success with my current paint scheme for my VC army. I use a very dard red (scab), black toned down(withbleached bone), and my other color is a mid sand-gray (codex gray bade, highlighted by mixing in bleached bone, then white). It looks good, provides nice contrast, and isnt as bright as straight-up white. i also tend to add Lich Purple and Scab Red together for variety in the reds here and their. Every color I use though is highlighted with a bleached bone.sand color instead of white, since it gives the VC a good, muted tone.
