Took my zombies to a doubles tournament today alongside a friend's 1000pts of Nighthaunt. Gave the old Nighthaunt book a good send off with a 3-0 result and second place, first place was taken by a seraphon/dragons alliance, who were the only other team to go 3-0.
We[UWSL] had one soft game against a really un-optimised stormcast/stormcast alliance which was a bit of a walkover, and a good hard fought game against a sylvaneth/ogres alliance where we went neck and neck to turn 3, but then cut off all their objective/battle tactic options and edged it out by 8 points in the end.[/UWSL]
Out last game was against an ogres/kharadron overlords alliance. The dwarfs flew behind us in their ironclad, and unleashed on my two vampires, killed one but I stuck all out defence on my soulbound garments vampire and he just pinged off shot after shot on a 2+ save, with no mortals to knock him over. We then auto-ran back with a hoard of 40 zombies, got off van Hel's and crimson feast, and went to town on the ironclad... I rolled 80 attacks in total in their two activations in combat (lovely big base to surround...!), and pulled out 19 6's to smash up the ironclad in one phase! They had nowhere to go after that, the zombies wiped the rest of the dwarfs by turn 2, the ogres overextended themselves to try to take more objectives than us and the Nighthaunt just rolled them up from one end to the other with the Mourngul and Hexwraiths getting at least one 10"+ charge every turn from turn 2 onwards to just rip the ogres to bits.
It's a shame that it has taken the entire lifespan of the old Nighthaunt book to come up with a strong list, but the emerald host, 15 Hexwraiths, knight of shrouds and a Mourngul provided some good fast hitting ability to back up my zombie hoards. Turns out the Nighthaunt book wasn't bad after all, it was just written for doubles events!
Lots of fun, I like doubles tournaments a lot - enough to get over my deep apathy about AoS...!
