I used a different army list initially but it didn't perform very well, so I made this army list as an experiment trying to get a feel of how much magic I needed. I wanted to see how the army fares when you max out on casting vampires. I like the new ghouls and bestial strigoi so:
Lord level 2: Master of the dark arts, Dark acolyte, Summon ghouls/ Skullstaff, Helm of Command
395pts
(typical casting lord with no level 3 upgrade, if I had the points I would upgrade him and choose forbidden lore instead)
Vampire BSB: Dread Knight/ Drakenhoff Banner
275pts
( The best hero in the army, anyone who joins his unit, feels warm and safe)
Vampire: Dark Acolyte, Summon ghouls/ Flayed Hauberk, Dispel Scroll
195pts
Vampire: Dark Acolyte, Summon ghouls/ Black Periapt, Book of Arkhan
195pts
(1060 pts in chars)
10 ghouls
80pts
10 ghouls
80pts
10 ghouls
80pts
1 vargulf
175pts
1 black coach
200pts
10 Black Knights FC
320pts
12 power dice/ with bound spell, maybe +1 with periapt
7 dispel dice / 1 scroll
Sum: 1995
Tactic:
All the vampires go in the central ghoul unit, which becomes invincible (regeneration for everyone) and support the rest of the army. In a game the unit withstood a double brettonian charge from errant units with bsb and lord, without me having raised anything in it.
The other 2 ghouls units start small, but with that much magic you can easily make them huge, depending on your opponents dispel dice ofcourse.
The Coach, Vargulf and BK are the few fast elements of this army.
Skullstaff is very nice, you can heal the non ghouls units on a 3+ and cast Vanhels on 2 dice reliably.
I used this army against a skaven sadish one, and though initially I was dissapointed in the end I managed to come ahead and claim a draw.
He destroyed my vargulf with censer bearers (lucky) and my coach with shooting. I thought I had lost till his plague monks had to charge my central unit, broke, I pursued and afterwards multiple vanhels with Bk's and huge ws7 ghoul units caused chaos to his army.
Oh big ghoul units are awesome, a pack of 21 giant rats broke after 2 close combats with them, while having charged them on the rear!
Changes:
The army is very very small, so I am thinking of making the coach into another vargulf, removing barding from the knights and maybe even dumping Book of Arkhan. That should give me 100 points to play with.
Any suggestions?
Ofcourse the best would be upgrading the list at 2250 pts for more freedom and more units it so desperatly needs!
