I played GW One but never transferred over; after spending however much it cost to get the original game then Nightfall and Factions, I didn't want to fork over yet more money to upgrade. And now those three games are completely worthless... (unless the servers are still going?)
My Necromancer was a lot of fun from time to time, though; summoning a million little Bone Horrors and the big one that went from all fleshy to all bony when its health drained.
tl;dr: I played the first game but wouldn't want to fork out for another game just for the company to release a new one and make the previous one unusable.

Definitely getting it. It is pretty much a entirely different game from GW1. GW1 was pretty much an instance hub whereas GW2 is a proper AAA MMO so I don't really get Count Darvaleth's reasoning. If GW2 was nothing more than GW1: enhanced edition I'd get it but it so isn't. If you take another game title like, for example, resident evil then GW1 through factions would be RE1-3 but RE4-6 is GW2. Now I didn't like the change but that's the besides the point. Point is, GW2 isn't just some expansion, it is a proper and logical step forward. Honestly, I'm still baffled that it doesn't have a subscription fee.
Also, A.net have no plans on shutting down GW1's servers. The game still has a dev team, etc etc. The only reason they'd shut them down is if people stop playing. Considering there is still a decent support for the game, indeed, many hardcore fans does not like GW2 at all, I wouldn't worry about GW1 disappearing any time soon.
Not going for a RP server though. All I know is that I'm going where my friends go.

I didn't realise that the GW1 servers were staying up; my original point was "why spend on game X with Y expansion packs only for it to shut down?". I hadn't seen that the original game was still up and running.
As for the bonus items, even if I bought GW 2 I think I'd make a new account anyway, as my last one was on an old and very very dodgy email address that I'd rather keep at arm's length. Perhaps once it's been out a little while and the cost isn't quite so extravagant my Necromancer Malekith Hellheart will join you for his final battles...

Definitely getting it, not sure about races or professions though. I'm probably going for a mesmer or necromancer, as anything but Asura.
I want to plat GW2, but i doubt i'll have the free time to enjoy it as much as i want 
I played in the closed betas and the game is simply amazing. If i decide to play, i'll make a Sylvari Mesmer. I really liked that class!!!

Hey! Just 'cause my necromancer was lousy in a fight and dirt-poor doesn't mean he should fetch drinks. I'm fairly sure I finished the original campaign but got to the stage where Nightfall and Factions were too difficult for me to pass through. Enemies were simply too tough.

I don't know. I really liked my ritualist. Was my absolute favorite class and I believe it doesn't exist in two. Is the game any good. My bro just got me Diablo 3 for my birthday and I'm getting a WoC battalion from my folks. I sense I won't have much free time in the future.
Lvl 25 Necro here, on Fissure of Woe. I'm thinking of making a guild specifically for Necros as we are often left out....though also for other professions if they want to. Awesome game if you have the time, close to skyrim graphics and great for groups. PM me if you think I should make a Carpe Noctem guild.
