Hi all,

I am in need of some ideas for my Blood Knights. My plan right now is to use a Box of Empire Knights as the base. Now, I love the Blood Knight Models. They are awesome. The problem is that my bank account doesn't like them so much. :( So any ideas about blood knight conversions using the empire knights (or something else) would be great! Try to remember that my goal is come up with something cool that cost much less than the Blood Knight Models.

Thanks everybody!

I might look at going to an online bit store, and getting horses of different plastic heroes (empire and bretonnia). Empire horses are pretty static. They're good for black knights, just not Blood Knights I think. I'd start with horses, and then brainstorm for ideas on how to jazz them up. The upper bodies could be either Empire or Brets, maybe use plastic grave guard, skeleton or zombie heads depending on your preference.

I view Blood Knights as characters almost; they pack as much as a whallop as more than most hero level characters, that's for sure.

Good point Grish. The empire knights' horses don't look too frenzied or crazy. I had thought of using Bretonnian horses since they look much more like they are moving but I don't think the barding works. The empire horses' barding is closer to the blood knights'. How hard do you think it would be to convert the horses into a more dramatic pose? Has anybody tried that?

Have you looked at the LOTR series? The knights of dol amroth are very much in motion, not too sure about their potential for pure evil, though. But they ARE $7 less than the Blood Knights

LotR is on a smaller scale (25mm scale as opposed to warhammer's 28mm scale). Some of their minatures can be used and seem about the same size, but most cannot.

I've used a Knight of Dal Amroth on foot as a Vamp before, but the models for the mounted ones are out of scale. The horses are much too small (it would be weird to have Blood Knights with smaller steeds than their decomposed BK brethren).

Well stated. Midgets can indeed be knights too. Has anybody done anything as an alternative to the blood knight models that worked for them? Or am I the only poor, married, college student who can't justify spending US$75 for five little guys on horses?

Actually Bret horse's would make sense as the Knights of the Blood Keep were turned from a Bretonnian Order. Plus their horses are much better than Empire ones in my opinion. But I would only use them as long as you've not included converted bret horses anywhere else in your army as you will want them to be unique, some people, myself include like the Bret one's for Black Knights. But I was lucky enough to be able to afford the GW Blood Knights.

I've been toying around with the idea of using the new DE cold one knights, those raptor like lizards are great, and maybe swapping the elf heads for ghoul heads (the ones without horns and such) this way they look a bit vampire like. But i'm still thinking how to make the lizards fit in the army.

just be glad you dont live in canada! despite the canadian dollar being on par with the american, the warhammer prices are outrageous! $110 for a box of the blood knights! at first i said no hway, too expensive. but then i changed my mind. the models are just way too awesome looking NOT to buy them. my advice...get a divorce, and then buy the models! :D other than that...empire seems like the only way to go...since the knights were originally from the empire storywise right...i think your stuck with them...

There's always Chaos Knights... sure, they'd need one hell of a file-down puryfing to remove all the chaos icons, some shield/head swaps, maybe some new weapons and a shiny new red coat of paint. But they've got the goods; big scary horses and armoured hittyness to boot. That and they weigh in at $25 less. Might be something to consider?

I was planning on buying a box of the new Cold one knights, using the figures and mounting them on Bret horses. A few different vampiric pieces here and there and voila!

I used Chaos Knights. My undead are all with a chaosy feel, marauders for ghouls, a few Chaos Warriors with swapped out skull heads as Grave Guard...Chaos Warrior mix used for the spirit host. I like it so far, I haven't painted much of it yet though.

On the Chaos Knights I just used Ghoul heads to sub for Blood Knights. I even used one of the Chaos Helms to make a convincing Wight Lord on mount. It's not a skeletal mount but I will do an ethereal paint job on the horse if it comes down to it. I have to buy more for my Black Knights so I haven't decided which way to go on those yet.

Okay, the decision has been made! Thank you everybody for your input.
While the blood knights were originally an Empire knightly order I think I'm going to go with the bretonnian knights. I'm planing on using various bits from the skeleton, zombie, grave guard, and ghoul sprues to make them especially creepy. Heads, bones, severed hands, and stuff hanging from the saddles. I'm going to use the knights errant heads with a pale skin paint job for some eternally youthful looking vampires, and a few will have helmets with bat wings added.

If they turn out in any way good I'll post a few pictures. Oh, I'm going to use Tomb King horsemen converted for my black knights so the bloods will still stand out. Plus I'm going to use a pegasus knight for the base of my vamp on hellsteed so they will tie in together.

Everybody here rocks! Oh, and no way am I getting a divorce. Wife > Warhammer.

Chaos Knight Horses-Empire Knight Bodies-Dark Elf Corsair Heads (the new ones, of course)
With a little modification to the armor this could look really cool.
Or if your feeling lucky:

What I'm trying is getting some Gamezone figs. Their less expensive than GW and have awesome detail. They are also metal. Originally, I believe the pcs were made to be TK's, but in my opinion some would make great Blood Knights for almost half the cost! Take a look.

Well, people could do what I did with my BK's. You could make new fluff for your unit. Like, I'm using Silver Helms for my Knights, adding the bat wings from some GG helms to theirs. My fluff is that they were a unit of Empire Knights who helped save a unit of Silver Helms from death in a chaos invasion. So, out of gratitude, they were given some Silver Helm equipment and steeds. These knights were then turned by a Blood Dragon, and their steeds inter-bred with nightmares. Bada-Boom!

I feel that the best models are the originals but YES they are very expensive. One thing I could recommend would be the use Chaos Knights and that night lord helmets and clip the bat wings and glue them to the knight's helmets. I did that for a Fantasy Nightlord theme army. It works really well.

I'm not fond of the originals, and how can anyone like the old camel model? That model is horrible (especially with his sword fused to the batwing off the helmet)
