Hey guys, need some help with painting my VC here. I'm trying to make my ghouls look like they're bleeding from every orifice. Tried drybrushing Rotting Flesh over a black undercoat but it didn't turn out right(far too bright). How would you go about doing it, or failing that, how do you do the 'standard GW' zombies and ghouls?

here is how i do my zombies, as for ghouls i dont like the model so im not much help but the skin kinda does look a little bloody.

1 coat of tallarn flesh
wash of baal red
dry brush tallarn flesh

Instead of drybrushing rotting flesh over the black try a wash, that should reduce the brightness. Then create a wash of scab red or similar and brush wherever you want bleeding, over the entire model if you so desire. You should find most of your 'bleeding' will be in the cracks and points of detail using that technique with a reddish tinge elsewhere.

I use a black undercoat, use rotting flesh and a limited patette of colours for the clothing, etc, use terracotta for old blood, and that with scab red for fresh (possibly with a final hi-light of blood red), then a coat of Tamiya smoke paint.

These are now based, and apologies for the quality of the phioto, but it gives the ides of the result. Using the smoke, I do not worry about detailing, as the paint does this, and provides a gloss coat, so needs only a light matt/satin varnish depending on the finish yopu are looking for.

I decided to try a mix of josef and skaramak's approaches, although I'm looking at having it a bit more reddish at the end. Both look good but skaramak's seems closer to what i'm trying to shoot for.

By the way is Vallejo Smokey Ink anything like that tamiya smoke paint?

This probably counts as thread necromancy(Raise Thread is 5+ to cast right?I'll use 2 Forum Dice) but here's my results after I tried a modified version of josef's approach.

Image quality is crap, I know, the best camera in my house is probably the one on my Nokia N95 and I'm still figuring out a few things about it. But anyway any C&C for the ghouls?

try adding some more dry brushing of the skin tone then wash it with a light cosat of Devlan mud...might help the look because atm to me it looks like it would fit nicely with a deamon army. but the horns do make the model a little more appeling.

*side note* if i ever start a deamon army i now know what i can use my ghouls for =P

It looks macabre and ghoulish (almost flayed...).

If you want your cam to focus on the model and not the background you should place the model on a white piece of paper. It does not only reflect all the light better, it helps the camera finding a point to focus on (thus keeping the pics sharper). And do use a lot of light...
