I've played my first few games of AoS with Soulblight, and had some questions about how the Endless Legions ability works during the game.
1) Do you roll for Endless Legions if you have no summonable units destroyed? It doesn't say you that you only roll if you have an eligible unit to return, and that would mean that the new Unstoppable Armies battle tactic can be gambled on at any time if you are stuck for a tactic?
2) How do Gorslav's Arise, Arise! and Endless Legions interact? Each is very clear that it can only be used once on each destroyed summonable unit, but neither says whether you can use both on the same unit? Can Gorslav bring back one half, and Endless Legions bring back the other half?
Thanks

Hi!

1) Yes, you can - as you always roll even with no destroyed units.

2) You cannot bring a replacement unit back more than once no matter the source. Endless Legions states this in the rules text. Hope this clears it up! 🙂

Cheers, Sunny
Thanks for taking the time to reply!

That's handy with 1), it means that in a pinch you always have a 1 in 3 gamble at 2 victory points for a battle tactic, even if you find yourself in the position of not being able to achieve any of the others!

Shame about 2) but it's what I expected. It puts the nail in the coffin for Gorslav as far as I can see, paying 75 points for a more reliable but limited version of a rule that the army already gets for free...

Another point that we've been unsure of - can Endless Legions trigger if you have no other models left on the board? I got tabled in turn 4 in one game, we decided to play out turn 5 to see how many points my opponent could rack up, he got priority and went first in turn 5 without really considering it. In his battleshock phase, I said I was going to roll for Endless Legions, we had a look and couldn't see any reason why I couldn't. I got my 5+, brought back a unit conveniently near an objective he had left unguarded, and then in my turn I chose conquer and walked my 10 zombies onto the objective, scoring 4 unexpected points! We laughed it off, as I still lost heavily, but it could have been more contentious in a tournament?

Thanks

You're welcome mate.

1) Yes, it is a nice sneaky thing to do when you're out of options. I wouldn't fault anyone for forgetting using it though :P.

2) Gorslav is a really good unit. A very good choice for most armies as he is the cheapest leader we can get our hands on - remember he can use heroic actions. However, to really make him shine let him lead a unit of 40+ zombies. Then he becomes really tanky because of his ability: Keeper of the Corpse-Gardens and he adds some offensive output to the zombie unit. If your zombie unit gets destroyed he can also bring them back with his command ability. Dire Wolves are also Deadwalkers which means they can benefit from Gorslav's Arise! Arise! ability and he can pass wounds to them. As a Deadwalker he also debuffs bravery which stacks nicely if he is close to his zombies.

3) The game only ends if one player achieves a Major Victory before the last turn or when the 5th battle round has been played, so you did that correctly.
