Not really sure, since that the servent of the archetypal vampire, Dracula, was the bug eating Reinfield, and the crazed, intellectually stunted/challenged assistant to Victor Frankenstein was named Fritz. Well as far as the Universal Movies adaptation is concerned anyways.. I don't believe that Fritz actually appeared in Shelley's original novel.. could be wrong though..
The Ghost of Frakenstein, a later sequel, featured a character by the name of Ygor, though he wasn't a hunchback, and was played by Bela Lugosi of all people. Young Frankenstein also featured an Eye-gor.. so I guess Igor just somehow had become the standard of the hunchback assistant, and stuck. Even making an appearance in Van Helsing, which most consider to be a bad movie, and I agree, but one of those bad ones that is enjoyable to watch. Well for me anyways
