Alright, here's the deal. I'm slowly starting my conversion work for Vampire counts, and once I get the ball rolling I'm going to be hopping into the painting/modelling logs to record it all. :D

But, until then, I ask for suggestions. I'm looking to make a Mahtmasi style VC addition to my main VC force. I'm in need of ideas on what base models to convert from. My basic plan is like thus:

Dire Wolves= Spider/Scorpions (Possibly spider riders?)
Skellies= Desert/nomadic Skeletons. (Any specific sprue ideas?)
Zombies= Dessicated, dried corpses. Whewt. Any ideas welcome.
Vampires= To keep with the Mahtmasi theme, definitely bug like, bug parts and very, very aggressive stances/poses. Any ideas on where to start?
Black Knights= Camels or beetles of some sort, or perhaps I might be able to make them ride mini sandstorms?
Blood Knights= Heavy cavalry, obviously, cataphract based if I can manage it.

that's my list for now, so if there are any ideas I'll gladly kick a few of them around, but until then, I have to keep greenstuffing skellies robes and such.

May the Night reign supreme! :D

Very nice idea, although, IMO better suited to a Tomb Kings based army. I am not convinced by the Voodoo Jungle thing that others are suggesting for Maatmasi, Arabic seems much more interesting to me.

I did an Araby Army conversion 10 years or so back based on the Kislev Horse Archers and Winged Lancers, conversions of old Marauder Arab civilians, the old Arabian Regiment of Renown and any Arabian style D&D characters. I used conversions of Dark Elf spearmen and crossbowmen as the core Infantry. Do remember it involved casting hundreds of resin Turbans to stick on every figures head! and featured Ali Baba as a hero leading a unit of 40 various rogues.

Now Arabic figures are much more common,
For the bulk of the troops try making skeleton units with baggy arabian style trousers, plain plastic skeleton torsos and arms and heads with a turban. Best option would be to use a pair of skeleton legs as an armature, sculpt a pair of loose baggy pants onto it, leaving the boney feet, add a scabbard and make a simple 2 part mould for resin casting.

I still think the Dark Elves (Executioners) make the best Saracen style heavy infantry due to the long chainmail robes. Some headswaps, shields and weapons from the new Grave Guard

Black Tree Designs do some wonderful 28mm Arabian style Fantasy figures that will work a treat if you are prepared to go non GW..

Zombies I would use the new Ghouls painted dark brown, converted to a more upright (not bum sniffing) pose. Your dessicated corpse idea is great. Add a few Mummy figures in as well.

Arabic style dancing girls as Banshee.

Genie as necromancer. The old GW one for D&D crops up on eBay from time to time or there are several other makes currently on the market.

The Kislev Winged Lancers (especially the one with the face mask) are still the best looking Arabic Cataphract cavalry even if GW still insist on calling them Russians. Marmaluke heavy Cavalry barding was on the surface all cloth covered (really beautiful colours and designs) so the OOP Bretonnian horses (without the cast on heraldry) will be perfect, convert them with Skeleton Horse bits.

Wolves, certainly scorpions, not spiders. Using repainted kids toy ones from $1/£1 shops is perfectly legal in GW events and an easy way of fielding units.

For Vampires I would use conversions of the Tomb Kings Priests and the older range of Mummys, use Genestealer arms and leg pieces which have a great "bug like" structure. Maybe even reshaped Genestealer heads?

Actually, if I did not have a list of projects as long as my arm already I might be tempted to have a go at this myself.

I look forward to seeing what you come up with.

Wow, a list of ideas that just makes me happy. :D I'll look into the genestealer and ghoul idea, definitely. That really makes a lot of sense, once spoken. I'll take a more serious look at the Executioners, definitely. I've never actually seen those models, so it's a new experience to piece together many things like this.

Thanks for the ideas!

This would make a nice Arabian Necromancer imo:
