Is this Army Background feasible?

So, I have a general idea for my VC force, but I'm not entirely sure of whether or not it makes sense with the lore of Warhammer Fantasy in general.

I felt it would be interesting to take the "repentant vampire" theme and expand that to the entire army. The vampires in the army have banded together and searched far and wide for special cases of Undead, those that have retained their mind and memories, and who feel abused by necromantic magicks. Or, in the case of my varhgulf substitute, creatures like Werewolves who have been warped by the misuse of magic or cursed in general. They approach them with the offer of service or release (if possible, I know vampires actually reconstitute themselves even if it takes centuries, so there really is no known release for them). If they can be released, in most cases by banishment or destruction of physical form, and they choose that option, the vampires will "kill" them, or kill the ones keeping them tied to the mortal realm.

If they choose service, however, they join the vampires in their crusade against the use of necromantic magics. The army raises no new dead, and spells like Invocation of Nehek simply repair physical/ethereal forms, or bring those who buried themselves previous to the battle to rise up and join the fray.

As far as models, this will be a fun project, as I've replaced ghouls with newly blooded vampires (empire flagellants painted pale and red-eyed and assorted models that fit the look), and zombies with various weakly constituted undead (Free Companies and other such rabble painted either like ghosts or vampires who haven't fed in way too long out of moral principle), and necromancers with shades/spirits/repentant necromancers that don't look half-dead themselves.

So, is this feasible?

It certainly sounds pretty good to me and a fresh take. In the end I think it all comes down to you and your imagination & the group you play with.

It does sound feasible, also vampires and other undead defintly can have a "release"

I believe they refer to it as "the true death" or something like that

Unfortunately warhammer vampires hold no such luxury. The process of becoming a vampire binds your soul to your mortal presence. this means that if they are to 'die' their mind floats around in tortured oblivion instead of being claimed by whatever god held stake (the chaos gods, Morr etc.)

Nothing against the army concept of repentant vampires hunting down others though. vampires can certainly be put in a situation where it's practically impossible for them to return and that's about as close as they can get. Your army sounds cool and I'd love to see some photos in the future

Yeah the whole new blooded vampires thing sounds cool, but as Lynks said, you can never kill a vampire, so would vampires really be that enthusiastic to lay down their lives? There's a reason vampires are so protective :D

Perhaps new blooded vampires who can't accept what they have become and just want to get away from it all?

Thanks for all the clarifications and encouragement, fellas!

And Lucifer, that's exactly why. They're brand new to vampirism and hating it, all they want is to stop those who would harm others with corrupt magics, especially necromancy. Or, they're old and just haven't eaten in so long that they're already committed to fighting the good fight despite the torment involved. Now, to prevent undue suffering in regards to those vampires who are "slain", the army's magic users will bring their corporeal forms back to keep up the fight, until a cure can be found for their condition. Most of those magic users are mere spirits anyway, or slighted vampires themselves. I intend to have a father daughter pair in the Vampire Lord miniature for the list's general. The daughter will be a beautiful (not the GW one, of course) banshee on his base that counts as his Armour of Destiny (that has a ward save, basically, she catches the blows for him). They'll be the center of the movement, and they're busy trying to reunite with their dead wife/mother, so finding a cure for vampirism is pretty key to the story.

Unfortunately, you guys probably won't be seeing any miniatures for a long, long time. I'm struggling to get my Tyranids off the ground, let alone the rest of my 40K stuff (BA and assorted allies), before I even get to Lizzies and VC. And financially, I just found out one of the main sources of Warhammer funds I had dried up completely. So, maybe when I'm like 40? Sigh.

Yup, fluff wise all makes sense to me! Loving the father/daughter thing. Me being the romantic type, I'd go for husband & wife looking for daughter but that's just me.

I'll be waiting then *creeps into shadows*

If it's romance you want, the husband longing to be with his wife and the vampire hero in the army list pining to actually be able to really hold the banshee daughter should be enough, I think. Of course, then there are all the other nifty characters I get to add in because this army has so much to riddle with fluff and fun modelwork.

Like using the Chaos Lord in Bone Armor standing on a large rock as Grave Guard filler for 4-6 GG as a centerpiece of the 40 man unit I have. Or the Cairn Wraith that will be melting out of the unit's banner to represent Banner of the Barrows. Or the three spirits imprisoned in Terrorgheist shells...or the Werewolf brothers that act as the Varghulf...man, I could go on and on.

And of course, don't forget the obligatory Black Cauldron tribute us the centerpiece filler of one of the skeleton units. That movie, specifically when the Horned King begins to raise the skeletal warriors, is why I'm going to run VC.

No, fair enough man, I was just putting forwards what I personally preferred. My thought process was that if there was anything worse than not knowing where your loved one is, it had to be seeing them suffer and not being able to do anything about it. Everytime she takes a blow he suffers, she's suffering as a spirit etc.

Liking the ideas. I hope you're a damned good modeller

Well, Lucifer, I am a heck of a modeller. The problem is, I'm a piss poor painter. Strangely, my ability to pose, combine bits, and find nifty looking items from other ranges and toys does not somehow magically bleed into the ability to make my miniatures look like they walked out of the 'Eavy Metal Gallery. But, my Tyranids should be teaching me the basics, my marines refining my skills, and every other army leading up to my hardest challenges: Fantasy Lizardmen and Vampire Counts.

Be careful with the nids. They destroyed my soul painting 100 gaunts. I literally gave up painting for a year. Then sold the army for £200 and bought some deldar. Loving them now.

My nids didn't destroy my soul... I just didn't paint them as they were too intimidating :P

I'd actually say that painting tyranids was harder for me than painting Vampire counts, at least with the VC there is a very distinct image for what colour certain things should be, and you have access to a far wider palette than the nids which had , probably at most 5 different shades for the entire army? (not counting bases)

I think it will be fun. I've picked an enjoyable color scheme (black body, yellow carapace, green eyes, emerald envenomed talons, semi-green glazed bodily fluids, and the stain of blood here and there on the fellows right in the thick of things. One of the bonuses of being poor is that I don't paint the entire army at once, and have time to work my way through it well.

Vampire Counts, however, will have so many different style of models in it that I'll have to do all sorts of things to paint them nicely.
