Greetings,

I'm wondering if anyone of you ever had a near-death experience?

I was quite shocked about finding out how threatening my disease was, which I suffered from when I was age 9 upon 10. I've had meningitis combined with encephalitis, and I will pray none of you will ever have it!

It appears that an average 1500 Americans are infected each year. On a 300.000.000 people basis, that's 0,0005% of the people. And that's infection by meningitis (not including encephalitis). 11% people infected let life go as a result and 20% receive long-term consequences (brain damage, kidney disease, hearing loss or limb amputations ~ but I also heard there are more, like blindness and epilepsy). That's 30% chance getting something bad!

Realizing this, I'm really feeling lucky I've never had any complications after healing.

Did anyone else on here ever had a life threatening disease, or a near-death experience in an accident?

I've had two that I can remember. (Does that say anything about my childhood? :devil2:)

First, I was riding my bike to Boy Scouts whenever I was what...9? 10 maybe? I was going round the corner and no less than 5 dogs came running out of a yard raisin hell. I was incidentally attacked, received several puncture wounds, and one was only 2 inches from that unusually large groin vein.

Yes, I almost had my junk bit off by a dog. Got scars too.

Second I was wrestling with my brother when I was 15 or 16 outside. We were on some kind of straw hill, and just throwing each other around. I got thrown, fell off the hill, and landed awkwardly on my shoulder and neck, and felt several loud pops. Turns out I was about....what'd the doctor say...."2 pounds of pressure from snapping my neck."

So, yes. Two experiences that I never realized were that bad until after. The first was just a few gauze pads, a trip to the police station to get the dogs dealt with (Replaced the fence and had the dogs on long chains inside), the second was by hot/Cold compresses and a day or two in bed. No lasting effects, that I can tell.

I have one or two, both cycling accidents (well debatably), they weren't near death but could have been (If I hadn't been wearing a helmet)

First one I was cycling down a road, fast, faster then cars are supposed to go so they shouldn't be overtaking me anyway (quite a silly speed looking back), but then this car comes racing up behind me just as i'm going round the bend tries to over take me, i'm as close to the curb as I could get and he nocks into the side of me, honking the horn as he does. This all happened to quick for me to brake properly

I hit the curb and get nocked off and go spinning onto the pavement and my head (with helmet) smashs into a wall. There was blood dripping off my arm and a bit of my leg, and my helmet was dammaged enough to safely say that if I hadn't been wearing it chances are I wouldn't be typing this (I still got an impressive bruise on my head).

WHile not strictly a 'near death' experience, i've had experiences that would have killed me if the wonders of modern medicine were not about. I'd have died at birth!

As to ever having a lief threatening disease I do have one, although again modern medicine reduces its threat to an annoyance-Diabetes. So I'd be dead twice now if it weren't for modern medicine-thats not bad

Well, I have had several. First off, apparently as a child I fell off a unit, and stopped breathing for a few seconds. I went blue and everything.

Secondly while riding my bike, I crashed into a fence and used the best thing I could to slow myself down - my head. 6 stiches later...

A more recent one now. I was walking home from the shop and some Ned (or chav or whatever you call them) flicks out a knife and threatans to stab me. Not really a near death, more a could have been. The police drive past and he takes off xD

I may have more later...

Once every three years or so as I'm a wreck! I've been defying death for all my life and I'm 18 years older than the life expectancy doctors gave me.

As for actual accidents I only have one and I can hardly remember it. I fell with my head from a pretty scary height right on top of a rock. I still have the scar from it but can't remember anything which might be due to the physical trauma I suffered; I normally remember everything but that year is kind of a blur. xD

Other near death encounters were even less pleasant and had more to do with violence from racists and idiots. Just this year I had somebody knock me on the back of the head and I was out for a couple of minutes because he had heard about my background. Eh...I'll continue to defy death if only to spite those people.

i saw the white light after i had an "accident" with some perscribtion meds last year

I felt peace and heard my dead Grandmother calling me but then i was brought round.
Now if there was an afterlife (and im not saying there is) then i belive i saw it

Well I've bin in a fair few car crashes and one motorcycle crash, nothing to major though.

The biggest thing so far for me is that thanks to my retarded neighbours my house caught fire and burnt down, wouldn't have bin that much of a problem is if I wasn't inside at the time that is. Just me, trying to round up 3 cats and a dog, family valuables and such while the fire brigade took about 40 minutes to get there when there only a bloody 10 minutes walk down the road. No one was hurt per say but within a few months all my cats had died which I think was related to the smoke, I was just a bit singed from trying to put it out next door and my house n needed some oxygen.

House was rebuilt in about a year and we're back now, with a nice new extension and conservatory

The first was just a few gauze pads, a trip to the police station to get the dogs dealt with (Replaced the fence and had the dogs on long chains inside),

I'm shocked they weren't put down!!!:zombie1::wow2:

Ive got one near death thingy.

I was going home from a ski trip with three friends. It's way below freezing and it's snowing like hell. I was driving an old Volvo 740, a car which is build like a brick and has back-wheel drive (don't really know if that's the real term in English, but the engine makes the back wheels spin.). The speed limit is 90 km/h, if you want to know what that is in Mph then google it ;), but I was only going 70 km/h. The road is all icy and slippery because the weather the day before had been sunny and warm and we left the ski-resort in the morning the water on the road had frozen during the night.

Anyways, I end up behind another car with a trailer packed full with snowmobiles and stuff and because of the heavy snowfall I can't see anything. I go snow blind one could say, all I see is the taillights of the trailer. The trailer make it even worse, whirling up snow as it goes. I can hardly even see the side of the road. So I drop back about 100 meters, until I can't see the taillights anymore. Not so smart really, but I was only 18 years old and had just got my drivers license, in other words, a really inexperienced driver.

So the trailer disappears, but it because the road goes over a small hill, when I reach the summit I can see that the trailer has stopped, its taillight burning bright red and it's driver is making a signal to turn left. I hit the brakes, nothing happens. The brakes on the old Volvo had just like the road frozen during the night. I can't slow down, and I'm still going pretty fast, plus it's a steep slope downhill. I take a chance and try to go around the trailer and hope that the driver will see me coming and that there will be no one coming in the opposite lane. But when I try to make such a hard turn I sent the car in to a spin.

I barely miss the other car and the trailer and we end up spinning in to the snow at the side of the road. Luckily it's really soft and there are no damages to the car or to the people in the car.

A close call, but we make it home safely. Oh and none of my passengers were wearing their seat-belts...
