Need advice on dried blood

Hey folks;
I am almost finished painting a gamesworkshop temple that I bought and on of the peices is an obilisk with a small skull on top. I invision that this temple is used for dark rituals so I would like to depict blood having come out of the eye sockets of the stone skull but I want this blood to have been from a long time ago and long since dry. Can anybody tell me how I can go about painting the dry blood? Any help would be gratfully received.

I've found that the new-discontinued Chestnut Ink gives a very grimy appearance when applied to low-lying areas.
