I finished my first box of the new crypt ghouls tonight. I like the models, however I'm a bit disappointed in the kits - it seems that GW is making more plastic yet making those plastics less conversion friendly.

Case in point - the arms only fit in exactly one pose on the body, so I have to trim and fill nearly all the shoulders to make the joints work. Is there a reason they couldn't have made these flat joins instead of the weird socket? Or even round sockets to give you some freedom in positioning the arms?

I agree with the new plasitcs, I just assembled some of my ghouls last night & I am very dissapointed in how fragile the they are. as a result my Ghast came out with one missing finger & toe cause of the way the feet are fastened to the sprue..arrrgh!!! damn GW for there cheap quality & high prices!!!

How are the GG for different poses etc? The ones with GWs, which I think most people will be using, look quite samey in the AB.

Do those of you who have the ghouls already think that filing down or converting their backs to have less of the bones/sprouted fur is a viable option for converting or is that too tricky to bother with as well?

I didn't, but it should be simple enough. I figure anyone wanting to do more than 10 will want to clip off the champions back a bit after the first model as well.

That is one thing I like about plastics - very easy to work with for converting, even if GW doesn't think to cast them that way (stupid arm sockets @(#*$#*@(!*#*#@!!!!!!!!)

Having finally seen the Ghouls first hand in store they look dreadful. I don't get why the arms and shoulders were sculpted the way they were. The "skinny" body and arms looks horrible unless you're patient enough to greenstuff the join away.

Looks like it'll be another long wait before we get some decent ones. :(

I like the models, but the joints are really badly designed. Unless you want mutant shoulderblades and/or huge gaps, you need to position them in the precise place they're intended to go, limiting the degree to which they can be posed to... well, to exactly how they are in the book. Even then you may find there are small gaps you need to 'stuff.

It's not just the shoulderblades, some of the hips also leave some gaps. I was planning on a lot of ghouls in my army but now I'm seriously re-thinking my plans.

I spent a while putting my Ghouls together and getting infuriated at the gaps or jutting out shoulders, as Zephr mentioned some of the hip joints are just as bad with gaps. I going to have to spend quite a while with the green stuff to sort out but the again the Dire Wolves were just as bad! A huge line running down the middle of skulls and its back and also some of the models had gaps between the small part of the skull and mane. I've already green stuffed those to an acceptable level.

The worst model for huge gaps though? Vargulf by a mile, a right bugger to glue togther and then green stuffing and texturing - I was not a happy bunny!

Hmmm hearing all this im tempted to simply convert a bunch of Tyranid Genestealers... They look better than the ones we have now and with a bit of greenstuff can be made to look a bit more human IMO...

I didn't have a problem with any gaps, and to make the joint smoother I brushed on some plastic glue to make it seamless.

The lack of poseability is totally upweighed by the amount of extra arms and heads.

I'd disagree there - as a bunch of the heads are duplicates. Lots of arms is nice - but would be much nicer if you chould change the position of them.
