In a few days im going to get 2 boxes of Vampire Count Skeletons, and i was wondering how you guys paint them up:
I was thinking:
1. Spray Skull White
2. Watered Down Brown ink
3. On Raised areas Bleached Bone
4. Highlights of Skull White

Weapons:
1. Under Coat Chaos Black
2. Paint them metal bronzed brass, followed by drybrush of boltgun metal
3. Wood coated in scorched earth, then drybrushed grave yard earth
3. Brown ink wash

What do you guys think? thanks

What you're suggesting sounds good although I'd probably not bother to water the brown ink down. Also Chestnut ink gives a nice rust effect on boltgun metal.

Myself I do a rather long winded paint job on my skellies that now take about 15 mins per skeleton:

1. Prime white.
2. Heavy Chestnut ink wash
3. Bleached Bone drybrush
4. Bleached Bone/Skull White 50/50 drybrush
5. Skull White drybrush
6. Paint Chestnut ink as detail into the figures crevices that got hit by the drybrush.
7. Skull White detail on all raised areas.
8. Watered down Chestnut ink wash (about 70/30 ink/water)
9. Skull White detail on top most raised areas.
10. VERY watered down Chestnut ink wash (about 10/90 ink water).

Weapons:

1. Sword handles Shining Gold, blade Boltgun Metal.
2. Watered down Chestnut ink (50/50 ) on Shining Gold and Boltgun Metal.

For my undead I paint all wood (axe handles, spear hafts) Chaos Black.

I would be interested in seeing the results, Bug16.

I'll try and get some decent photos taken of what I've been painting (i.e. borrow work's camera for a weekend). The shots I got from my scanner aren't all that great.

There's a photo of a standard bearer I painted on:

Because I scanned the figure it's very bright!

It is probably a little more than I would go to for ordinary skeletons, due to the large numbers I have, and lack of time.

I started painting them with a couple of stages missed out initially but as I've continued painting them a few more stages squeezed themselves in.

I've painted 100 of the blighters so far, with another 20 to go. Let's just say I will never need to paint another plastic skeleton in my life ever!

I really should be painting some more today but I'm a bit too hungover to concentrate on painting today.

Greetings Maxim,

The best results for me with bone have been the following:

- Black Undercoat
- Bestial Brown
- Bleached Bone
- Skull White Highlight

For a bit of added detail or if you are a sloppy/careless painter (such as I), I would recommend a chestnut glaze just after the bleached bone to help pick out any details.

Hope that helps.
