Explanation
It is hard to fit a 2000 pts Nighthaunt list into a Battle Regiment Battalion - but not impossible! But why even try? Well, I think there is a lot of merit to deciding who goes first - especially when you play Nighthaunt. If you want an in depth analysis of why then check this other thread I made: Learnings about Nighthaunt from Grand Tournament - Carpe Noctem . After much contemplation and fiddling around with different lists I have come up with something that I think can potentially be really strong. I bring to you:

The Nighthaunt One Drop List
Army Faction: Nighthaunt
Subfaction: The Scarlet Doom
Grand Strategy: Take What’s Theirs
Triumph: Bloodthirsty

LEADERS
  • Guardian of Souls (150)*: General, Command Traits: Master of Magic, Artefacts of Power: Midnight Tome, Spells: Seal of Shyish
  • Krulghast Cruciator (150)*
  • Spirit Torment (115)*

BATTLELINE
  • 20 Bladegheist Revenants (350)*
  • 20 Bladegheist Revenants (350)*
  • 20 Bladegheist Revenants (350)*
  • 10 Hexwraiths (320)*
  • 3 Spirit Hosts (125)*

ENDLESS SPELL
  • Purple Sun of Shyish (70)

CORE BATTALIONS
  • *Battle Regiment

TOTAL POINTS: 1980/2000

As always, please let me know what you think and if you have ideas for the list :D

Cheers,
Sunny

PS. An alternative list I'm looking at is cutting 10 Bladegheists, 5 Hexwraiths and the Spirit Torment to bring in Olynder and 3 more Spirit Hosts.

It is impressive.
you have no Bounty Hunters but frankly you don't need them.

The only thing i don't like is the huge block of hexwraiths. I get that you are forced to keep them together as you have just that number of slot for the battalion, but we know 10 knights is an impractical unit.
The plus side is that such a big block is hard to shift / kill, and that plays nicely for your grand strategy.

But i definitely like it 😊

Thanks my dude!

I very much agree that 10 Hexwraiths are kind of awkward. I would love to have the option of 2x10 Hexwraiths instead but then I end up with more drops, so for this list at least that is not an option. I was actually thinking that the Hexwraiths could work as an anvil in front of my heroes. If I place them sideways they have a very wide frontage. This means that my Bladegheists don’t have to take the hit if my castle gets charged.

Regarding Bounty Hunters: I don’t think I need them. I've had Bounty Hunters in my last 10 games or so, and so far they have not made a difference in my games. I think this is because of two factors: firstly the tournament meta here is avoiding Galletian Veterans thus negating the bonus from Bounty Hunters and secondly because Bladegheists are so hardhitting already that the extra damage is overkill. The only matchup where I feel like I would miss Bounty Hunters is against Maggotkin of Nurgle.

As I also wrote in my original post I am considering an alternative version of the list with Olynder in it. That one looks like this:

Olynder's One Drop
Army Faction: Nighthaunt
Subfaction: The Scarlet Doom
Grand Strategy: Take What’s Theirs
Triumph: Bloodthirsty

LEADERS
Guardian of Souls (150)*
- General
- Command Traits: Master of Magic
- Chill Blade
- Artefacts of Power: Midnight Tome
- Spells: Seal of Shyish
Krulghast Cruciator (150)*
Lady Olynder (340)*
- Spells: Seal of Shyish

BATTLELINE
20 Bladegheist Revenants (350)*
20 Bladegheist Revenants (350)*
10 Bladegheist Revenants (175)*
6 Spirit Hosts (250)*
5 Hexwraiths (160)*

ENDLESS SPELL
1 x Purple Sun of Shyish (70)

CORE BATTALIONS
*Battle Regiment

TOTAL POINTS: 1995/2000

Thanks! I'm leaning towards the first one the most. Mainly because Olynder is fine, but she is very much a jack of all trades, master of none.

Now I'm considering switching Purple Sun for Mortalis Terminexus... This might seem crazy, but the range on Terminexus is just soooo good for an army like Nighthaunt that has very limited ranges for our threats.

MT is a solid spell, with good range and a huge blast.

Yeah - a threat range of 26" is very good. I will have to play around with it. It will at least be the obvious choice if they nerf Purple Sun.
Oh, gw will surely nerf it. The point is how much it will be downgraded.

So I tested my One Drop list - and found some things that will improve it quite a bit. First off, we were correct in assuming that it was a bit too awkward with 10 models of Hexwraiths in the same unit - so I've cut them down to 5, as a small unit will do their job just as well. This frees up points. I found that 3 Spirit Hosts was a bit too little to keep my heroes alive (and Nighthaunt heroes needs to be kept alive!) - so I've bumped them up to 6 Spirit Hosts which also makes them better as a screen. Then I've switched the Guardian of Souls with Reikenor - and this is a big improvement I think. The reason is that Reikenor is way more mobile and doesn't need a command trait and artefact to get Purple Sun through. This means that I can give the Spirit Torment arcane tome which gives me another cast, which is really important as my army is very dependent on Seal of Shyish. It also means that I can make the Krulghast the General and give him Ruler of the Spirit Hosts. This command trait is a bit of a gamble but a 50% chance of getting 10 Bladegheists back is quite dope - but we'll see, maybe I find something better to do with the trait. Anyways here is The Improved Nighthaunt One Drop List!
