Thralls and Gets

So having been reading through Neferata something struck me.
In the army books we've had through the years, it's been repeated that a vampire that sires too many others will weaken itself.
Well in Mourkain they (mainly Ushoran) were giving the Blood Kiss out quite liberally. Although perhaps master vampires are more resistant to being weakened. It also states that, with each generation the vampires become weaker (6th and 7th eds?) so just wondered what the accepted view of this is.
And to add another point of interest in the Red Duke novel his vampires are no better then slaves (ie thralls) as he says himself when he goes to turn the prophetess. "You will share my curse fully, not as some half-witted vermin".
So is this lower tier of vampirism mentioned anywherelse in the background?

As far as the army books go, there have always been differences in terms of the abilities of Vampires, you need only look at the story of the Von Carsteins for that, but as far as different tiers of Vampirism being mentioned in the context you refer to, I can't recall a specific reference off the top of my head.

There is, of course, the information about Thralls in the the army books, if that's the sort of thing you mean. Does that count, or are you only interesting in references in Black Library books?

Cheers, just general info reguardless where if it's BL or GW. Although I guess more BL as I find their lore on vamps more to what it should be then current GW stance.

There's more likely to be the level of detail, and distinction, which you're looking for in the Black Library novels.

The way I see it is that Thralls, while reasonably powerful by mortal standards, are actually pretty weak. They're going to have limited magical ability, and won't be able to command the dead to any great extent. They're primarily there to act as bodyguards for the Count or Lord who 'created' them, and to be used as ablative wounds when necessary.

Well, I thought thralls were just mortal servants of vampires who have been fed on and are this bound 'magically' to the vampire. Pretty much, they are used as guards during the day and to run errands for their masters.

Yea Thralls are "New" Vamps (The new period could last decades or even longer).
They're called Thralls because they're magically bound to their sire's will until they're old enough to break the hold. (E.g. It was noted in either the Liber Necris or an old Army Book that during the Fall of Lahmia the Disciples of W'soran died in the Great Library Fires and where too old for W'soran to force them to leave.)
The longer a vampire lasts the more powerful they become, age brings physical and magical power, eventually reaching Vampire Lord Status.

I have all the old army books, and I don't recall that reference from memory, so I suspect that it's from Liber Necris (which I sadly don't have). Still, it's good to know, either way, that my hypothesis wasn't complete fiction, and that it is referred to in an official source.

Liber Necris sadly is not all that official anymore as GW wants all their writers to ignore all lore provided by it *grins* Sorry, sorry XD!
