Hello,

I'm going to play against DE's & WE's mostly with the new army list. What kind of army list would you build against these fast moving, mostly hiding and dancing around you armies?

Could be that this should be in the tactics treat, but I'm really looking for army lists with the new book.

Best units vs Elves with the new VC? Must haves? Vampire's set up etc etc..

Cheers,

Caer

Lots of zombies? My opponents will just walk around them (to slow to do anything about that) and pick off 1 unit at a time. And zombies are not gonna kill anything of him im afraid.

Or how do you sugest to use these?^^

I have very little experience with the dark elves so I can't really offer advice about them.

Regarding wood elves:

Most of our rare choices are really good for countering the woodies. Vargulfs can eat dryads and wardancers, the black coah is basicly immune to woods shooting and the wraiths though suseptible to magical attacks have magical attacks themselves.

I would say a lord with the flamming lance would be a good choice, specially combined with with red fury and hatred, he could easily one shot treekins and treemen. For ancient treemen change the lance to dread lance which autohits, zombie dragon would be nice too. Another possible choice would be the ninja lord with red fury, hatred, walking death/ von carstein ring, sword of might, talisman of lynci. That guy can charge 18 inches, possibly slay even treekins and even if he gets in trouble later he can always use the carstein ring to save himself.

I think perhaps the best choice would be Black Knights, these guys move through forests, have magical attacks and can easily destroy most wood elf units. (treemen, and treekins might be a problem)

I suppose going heavy magic with forbidden lore to gain access to Vanhels should be very useful. With a caster lord you could potentially cast it 3 times in a magic face, forcing the wood player to burn his dispel scrolls early and later outmanouvering him.

Tnx for the advice VladtheLad,
I agree with you on most things. The rare choises are all great against WE's. I used to have problems with WE's movement because I used lots of infantery blocks and my knights got blocked by moving forests quite often. One of the few things that could ignore his movement tricks where the Spirit Hosts. Unfortunately, they where usually burned down quickly by spells/magic attacks.
With the new Etheral movement on Black Knights, these guys are ace! They can jsut charge into those woods and butcher soms elves. (a question btw on the etheral movement, since only the mounts and not the wights are ethereal, can they move trough buildings aswell, as say, a spirit host of banshee can?)
A vampire build for CC would also be great, tho I'm always a little afraid of putting him on his own. Not sure how the new vamps will be with those awsome bloodlines ( I expect getting the book&spearhead today!)
Magic heavy is always good (or well..was in the old VC). Recon its still good.
Any other advice on stopping their movement tricks?
And how would you take down a treeman, hiding in a wood ofcourse, surounded by other troops. Throw a zombie tarpit against it and hope it holds? Send in the Knights? Risk you tooled up Vampire?

Cheers,

Caer

Curse of Years, and Wind of Undeath, seem nice. I just don't know about it I haven't played WH (just starting), so fare warning. I would say play to the VC strengths: magic phase, speed, raising and unit renewal, choose your strong point and exploit the weaknesses of your enemy.

Possibly have your lord take Forbidden Lore, he then has access to the Lore of fire.

You're going to have trouble with a ancient in the woods protected by troops but on the other hand that is one hell of points sink.

Here are some ideas that might help:

Hero
Hunter in the dark, supernatural terror, Armour of Night, Talisman of Lynci - main use of this guy is that he can really disrupt the shooting for you got get in combat, with his scout, high movement and terror he can block marches, cause units to run off hopefully and with his armour is is at -2 hit so a total of at least -3 (single character), put him in cover (characters on thier don't suffer from terrain) and wood elves can try and hit him all they want.

Wraith unit, these can flush all the hidden troops out of the woods and will obliterate scouts

Anti treeman unit - Personally if he's going to have a points sink you could do the same.
Knights of Blood Keep carrying Hellfire banner with a vampire BSB carrying Banner of Drakenhoff and has red fury (generates an extra attack versus every unsaved wound, double wounds on treemen as have fire weapons............)

Also have plenty of zombies to raise to block charges stop marching, combined with the above scout will soon throw his shooty speedy army into disarry. (By the way the scout is an actual model out of my army list except I have also put the Black Periapt on him, if you use him let me know how he works out.)

I don't see why you should kill a treeman inside some woods with units around him. He must come out to face you eventually. I mean I know its one hell of a monster, but your aim in the game isn't killing the treeman inside some woods. If you don't have the tools for killing him (like Disciple said the KotBK with hellfire banner would be the best) feed him infantry.

I know I dont have to take him down, but going around him is'nt really an option either..

I mean, he can strangle root, move his forest with him inside etc. Meaning that I cant just simply attack the units around him without being afraid of a treeman charing out of the woods or stranglerooting my squishy stuff.

Good advice tho of everyone above.

Mayb some more advice on fighting DE's MSU?
