In the Helbrute Dataslate, one of the formations (Helfist Murderpack) has one Helbrute designated as a Champion in a unit of 5 Helbrutes. This Helbrute Champion gets the Champions of Chaos Special rule, as well as the Aura of Dark Glory rule.

Aura of Dark Glory confers a 5+ invulnerable save.

How do invuln saves work on a vehicle?

A save of any kind (Armour, Cover, Invuln) normally works as a roll taken to negate a wound suffered by a model that actually has wounds.

An exception is made in the rules for Cover saves, stating in the vehicles section that an obscured vehicle, or a vehicle granted a cover save via special rules, can take a cover save to negate a glancing or pentrating hit.

However, that passage only applies to cover saves- it says nothing about how an invulnerable save would work on a vehicle. At no place in the Helbrute dataslate is how this works explained.

I guess that you are supposed to treat the Helbrute invuln save in the same way as you would a cover save, but it would be nice if there was some clarification somewhere, as RAW supplies no rules for how to resolve an invuln save on a vehicle.

RAW is non-existent nonsense.

Apply some common sense. It's another type of save. If you pass the save, there are no negative effects. It's not difficult to figure out, is it. Grot Tanks and Mega Grot Tanks also have invulnerable saves. The only appreciable difference is that cover saves are easier to negate in certain situations.

In the W40K rules update 1.5 (September 2013) and at least according to the spanish version (surely the same in the original version of the update, but talking about GW God only nows...), under the mistake list (5th one) is stated that the paragraph in page 17 of the core rules related to invulnerable salvations must be changed and clearly states that an invulnerable salvation roll can be rolled to avoid wounds or, in the case of vehicles, impacts.

Hope it helps, Sanai.

Yes, invulnerable saves are taken against glancing/penetrating hits just as you would take them against wounds.
