Where are the Liches?

we have a lot of undead types in the army, vampires, wights, ghosts and zombies but where are the liches in the fluff? for those who dont know what i'm talking about a lich is a sorcerer/necromancer who uses dark magic to remove his soul and store it in a magical receptacle making his body undead. as long as the receptacle holds his soul he cant be truly killed. Necromancers want the immortality that vampires have and liches are among the most powerful types of undead so why dont some go down this route instead of entering into a vampires service? the only references that i've seen are Heinrich Kemmlers title of lichmaster and the tomb kings lich priests but as far as i know neither are actual lich's.

As far as I know the only beings powerful enough to have actually achieved lichehood are Nagash himself and his Dread Lords, as they are all liches. Other than that I no of no others; becoming a lich is an understandably difficult task.

ahhh i completely forgot about Nagash, never really thought of him as a lich before as he drinks the elixir to become undead, but i dont know a lot about his fluff other than the standard stuff in the army books of VC and TK. looking at the model i have of him he does look very lichy though, hmmmm anyone know if Nagash's book is any good? both as general reading material and as a source of Nagash fluff?
i know he went to a lot of trouble and research to become what he is so i guess that explains why there aren't any other liches around now

It is superb. I still stand that the 4th edition Undead book is the best bar none for fluff. If you can get hold of one I highly recommend you do.

thanks, i'll pick up a copy of Nagash's book next time i'm in the shop. and i'll start hunting for a 4th edition book when i can get my friend to go on ebay, he's like my warhammer bloodhound :lol:
