The intended direction of this Zombie Pirates list has been decided, as evidenced by the posts below the line, to be leaning towards a stand-alone list emphasizing Zombies - be they humanoid or zombified sea monsters - as the stars of the show, supported by some uniquely pirate style units and elements. While vampire characters will be available, they will not be the mandatory core character choices they are in the Vampire Counts list.

Whether you're new to the project, or someone returning to continue lending a hand, please keep this direction in mind when evaluating what you read. I look forward to seeing what ideas it helps create in the minds of everyone here.

Recently, the direction of the Zombie Pirates list has come into question. While we are all bound to have differing opinions on how the list should develop, which should be discussed in their relevant threads, I believe that everything would go more smoothly if we knew what the agreed upon premise of the list was. Therefore, I'm taking a page directly from the Legion of Nagash, and posting up this thread so that we can hopefully come to a consensus to in an effort to streamline debate elsewhere.

At the moment, I'm seeing these two schools of thought on the issue:

1) Zombie Pirates as a variant of Vampire Counts
In this form, the Zombie Pirates would likely be lead by vampires, and contain things like wights, skeletons, and possibly even some form of ghoul. A select few other elements - some Vampire Powers or Magic Items, for example - would likely be carried over As Is from the VC book to be made available in this army.

2) Zombie Pirates as their own list
In this form, the Zombie Pirates would be designed to stand alone. The emphasis would be on Zombies over all other forms of Undead, and they would have a list of Magic Items entirely their own to choose from. As I see it, in this form, Infamous Aliases would replace Vampire Powers, which would no longer be available.

Personally, I am firmly in the second camp. As expressed elsewhere, if I'm going to play a Zombie Pirates army, I want it to be all about the Zombies.

I would ask that everyone speak up on this matter. In no way are you limited to the two viewpoints I've listed, so please feel free to describe how you personally envision the list unfolding. Hopefully we can agree on a core idea, at which point I will edit and sticky this thread to reflect what we have decided on.

I'm in a variant of the second camp, I want a stand alone undead/zombie pirate army very heavily focused on zombies (enough so that the army is named zombie pirates and not undead pirates), but I want there to be some other stuff (cool) in there as well (Ghosts, ships, Mosters).

I think the 2nd of the two options should be followed for the reasons Capt RD stated. Also from the current ideas for the zombie list, its currently leaning towards being the 2nd option anyway!

Alright, it appears we're on the same page so far. I'll keep this thread open until the 15th, at which point I'll sticky it as I mentioned in the original post. As mentioned, the intent of this thread is currently to help refocus our efforts and hopefully spark a new bout of inspiration; once stickied, the intend will be to help any newcomers to the project quickly get a grasp of what we're going for without having to read a bunch of threads. :D

Well as long as you and the other start posting again – I will as well!

I was also thinking that whilst we can get all the concepts sorted out, we may want to wait until the edition comes out before voting through any rules?

I am definatly second camp. These are zombie pirates, not another bloodlines list.
Zombie. Pirates. With sea monsters, cannons and flintlocks. and a dead pirate on the shoulder of a guy with a peg leg.

I suppose that depends on how much of what we come up with is likely to require changing with the new version, how quickly we advance our ideas to the point where they're ready to be voted on, and how long we have until the next edition hits shelves.

Personally, I think the main thing we should delay on voting through is magic. With the rest of the army, the worst that I see happening is the changes of the new edition requiring that we revisit some of the unit ideas to bring them in line with the new rules.

Concerning the dead pirate on the shoulder... Actually, that's probably better posted in the character thread.

It seems that I'm on my own in imagining that these are the canonical undead from the Vampire Coast (that are represented by the Sartosan range.)

However, I found these through Facebook today, and they're a lot nicer than the generic zombie sprue:

However, it seems that they are all skeletal, kind of a Monkey Island tip. Or Barbossa's crew from PotC.
