This is not a thread for discussion.
The purpose of this thread is a post per day overview of the list, reflecting how it is evolving, and giving an idea of what's present. I'm taking the liberty of posting this after speaking to Lord of Ravens, and having him comment that it's a good idea. Again, please refrain from commenting here, and instead direct your comments to the appropriate threads. Thank you.Army-Wide Special Rules:
Undead - As in the VC armybook
Creatures of the Sea - Move through water terrain as if were open terrain. Non flyers only.
Close to the Salt – After regular terrain is placed, Zombie Pirate player places one water-based terrain-piece.
Magic:
Best summed up by quoting LoR:
Lord of Ravens said:The Magic will be cast by Shanty Singers (see Character discussion thread).
They will channel the power through a Zombie Unit. A dice will be rolled to determine the power level.
The Caster can cast multiple shanties, but each Unit can only sing once per turn.
Musicians will play some part in dispelling enemy spells.
Special Characters:
Luthor Harkon- probably as per the WD published list, although not compulsory
Additional, as-yet undefined lord level character
Rob the Zombie- Hero level special character - he can maybe be a slightly random/ wacky character?
Lords:
Vampire Admiral- Make him a 0-1 choice to hightlight his rarity
Ancient Mariner as Ghostmaker - no magic but potent stats
Scry Seer - magic caster but not a fighter. This should be a more powerful version of the shanty singer (Name used as no others have yet been proposed).
Heroes:
Zombie Captain- Highly customisable
Merman - kinda like out of pirates of the caribbean where they are basically still human looking, but with fish / octopus / crab parts. He could be a tough wight type character.
Shanty Singer - Old man wise in the ways of the sea and its storms - caster.
Vampire Captain - Counterpart to the Vampire Admiral. May have Mutiny rule that forces the Captain to fight the Admiral if both are in the same unit and they lose combat.
Core:
Wrecks - The Corpse-carts except they’re ships that float inland. Exact function is as yet undetermined, as is upgrade options and nature of movement, though general feeling seems to be that they should join zombie units and bolster movement in some way.
Zombie Pirates - The meat of the Zombie Pirate army. It has been suggested that they should have a variety of Champion options, and each would give the unit a certain stat bonus as well as specific weapons.
Dread Gulls - Flocks of murderous seagulls, roughly equivalent to Bat Swarms.
Bloated Corpses - Explosive dead men. Yum.
Special:
Deck Gunners- Pairs of zombies armed with pivot guns. These zombies provide some hard hitting anti armour firepower.
Cannonade - Groups of zombies manning groups of cannons. May be merged with the above entry due to similarity, or shunted into rare and given bigger guns(?).
Albatross- a big bid with an area of effect ability along the lines of a -1 to leadership/Attack rolls/Something for being within 6 inches. Kinda like a terror check, but more along the lines of disheartening.
Fish-men/Mermen- Unliving beasts of men slowly adapting to life undersea, developing various sea creature traits (spines like an urchin, claws like a crab, etc).
Rare:
Sirens- Terrible female ghosts, these creatures once lured sailors to their doom. Now they use their siren song to lure the enemies of the Zombie Pirates to a similar fate. Useful for luring enemies out of position.
Sea Serpent - Large and nasty critter from the deep, come ashore at the compulsion of the army's captain. Suggestions include increased movement rate in water-based terrain.
Kraken - A monster that's actually an entire unit! Eight tentacles on individual bases surrounding the Kraken itself on a 40 mm base. Suggestions include increased movement rate in water-based terrain.
Queen Bess/Black Bombard - A giant cannon with special crew. The suggestion has been made that this be treated as a special character.
Flying Tilean/Ghost Ship - as it sounds, a large, ethereal ship floating about and unleashing a ghostly cannonade.
Ideas Proposed and Rejected/Undecided On:
Death Lobsters: Giant lobsters pressed into service either as cavalry (with mounts) or independent monstrosities.
Ship's Bell: Several uses have been suggested, from magic item to required Hero choice to upgrade for Wrecks.
Sea Ghouls: Shipwrecked crew forced to turn to cannibalism to survive. Declined on the grounds that their inclusion would be drifting too close to a traditional Vampire Counts army.
Zombie Ogres: Suggested and more or less shot down, though as we all know just because a zombie looks dead, doesn't mean it can't get back up.
Ship's Figureheads: Though declined as a unit, Figureheads remain in limbo as a possible form of magic banner, or possibly an upgrade for Wrecks.
Zombie Dark Elf Corsairs: Suggested and turned aside on the grounds that race-specific zombies were thought to detract from the overall theme.
Zombie Dogs: Akin to Sea Ghouls, their suggestion was met with the thought that their inclusion may stray too close to a traditional VC army.
This posting is approximately half an hour late when compared to the time I had intended it for. I shall aim to have an update reflecting changes from this list posted at noon each day.
