This thread is for the discussion of rules, stat etc for the Queen Bess (big cannon).

When things are decided upon, I will post them here.

So far, not much been decided upon with this unit.

What do you think its special rules should be?

I was thinking we make its shots cause panic tests, some kind of huge magical cannon ball that scares the crap outta people as well as killing people.

Although I think it should cause panic, I don't think the shots should be magical. I dont want it to be too like a Hellcannon.

Do you think its hould fire directly or indirectly?

I think it should fire like a cannon - but be a super version of it. Perhaps instead of just a single line, you bounce the small blast template, with everything being touched suffering from a hit? Would be very potent.

We could describe it as firing a variation of the Ball and Chain ammunition - in this case, a single large ball with a bunch of chains attached to it. Sure, it's less aerodynamic, and in theory the ball could spin enough to cause the chains to flail out like an airborne nightmare (or they could be enchanted to do just that, or something). Maybe count it as a S7 hit causing D6 wounds for anyone not directly under the hole in the template as it moves? I do like the idea of it firing a template-sized cannon ball, and I'd be concerned about people refusing to play against it when they realized it could cut a unit of the heaviest armored, most expensive models in half in a single shot; at least with it being S7 outside the main impact line it could theoretically allow armor saves.

I have been thinking on it more, and I do that if we make it too powerful it won’t work.

So I think we should have the following:

Blast template fires like a cannon
Anything under the hole suffers S10 hit causing D6 wounds and does not allow armour saves.
Anything under the rest of the blast template (either fully or partially like the skaven weapons) suffers a S5 hit causing D3 wounds, which also counts as armour penetrating.

The shot also counts as a magical attack.

Thoughts?

I still like the idea of some kind of fear or terror or panic rule with it, to represent people having the crap scared outta them by such an enormous magical cannon. But perhaps its devastating power will invoke those tests out of mass casualties anyway.

Yeah I think if we are going for an uber killing cannon, that should be enough for the panic checks. if we start adding more special rules on top of that, then it will become OP.

On the other hand, do we really want it to be that uber and killy? Its not exactly very...subtle. I know a cannon isnt inherently subtle, but..you get what I mean?

I do know what you mean, but I think with the rest of the list working more on synergy and special rules etc, a nice straight forward blasting-crap-out-of-them weapon would be good.

And in its own way, it may be unexpected, especially if it's the last thing we make use of. All this combo stuff and then "Oh yea, I forgot about Queen Bess for a couple turns. Here, eat this template."

Sounds great to me, but I also think it will need a special Misfire table.
With one being use a Big blast template instead of the small one but then Queen bess is destroyed.

Well I had a go at writing a misfire table, all suggestions welcome as usual, it could probably do with being more crazy but I ran out of idea's.

Queen Bless Missfire table

1-BOOM! Place a Large blast over queen bess, everything takes a str 10 hit. Queen bess is then destroyed
2-Too much powder! Queen bess its self takes D3 strength 10 hits, may shoot as normal next turn
3-Did you remeber to put the brakes on? Bess fires in a random direction determined by scatter dice.
4-I think its gone rusty? May not shoot next turn
5-You forgot the cannon ball! May continue to shoot as normal next turn
6-BOOM! AGAIN! Instead of using a small blast for the shot a large blast is used instead. Queen bess is then destroyed

I think Zombies would struggle to say some of them.

I like it. What happens to make it misfire? Rolling a one?

I take it you haven't read the artillery rules yet then ;) A brief explanation

Choose your target
Guess the range without measuring
Roll a special dice 2,4,6,8,10, Missfire result (roll on above table)...add that to your guess thats how far it goes before bouncing
Then roll the dice again to see how far it bounces (Missfire means it gets stuck and doesn't bounce). Anything on the line is now hit by the cannon ball

I do not own the rulebook, as my VC are secondary to my Imperial Guard, and are not yet ready for the tabletop. Luckily, I have not purchased the fantasy rulebook, the lucky part being that the new one comes out in july so it would have been a waste of money for me.

Well Queen Bess:

Queen Bess / T7 / W4
Crew: 3 Fishmen (Same stats and name as to be decided in special choice)

Special rules
Cannon
Load the chain
Queen bess is loaded with massive lead cannon balls with chains attached to the edge, when fired this sends the cannon ball spining, the chains rip through flesh and bone in the Way.
Rather then the usual single line after the bounce, place the small blast template anything hit touched by the template is hit, at str 8 under the hole and str 5 armour piercing elsewhere.
