IGNORE TITLE, ===> 900pts, not 800.

First off credit must go to Kung Fu Hamster, as this list was inspired by theirs then tailored to my liking.

Size: 900pts
Type: Training army
Tactics: Generalised I guess. Put the WK in with the Skeletons. Nec can use MotD to raise beyond starting numbers. Nec in zombunker, WK skeletons primary combat unit with Horrors and CC supporting. Hexwraiths causing havoc on the flanks.

Heroes:
- Necromancer, Lvl 2, Master of the Dead, Lore of Vampires @ 120pts
- Wight King, Razor Banner @ 134pts

Core:
- 34 Zombies @ 102pts
- 24 Skeletons w/full command, Screaming Banner @ 175pts

Special:
- Corpse Cart, Balefire @ 105pts
- 3 Crypt Horrors @ 114pts
- 5 Hexwraiths @ 150pts

Total: 900pts

Query: If the WK has his Razor Standard in with the skeletons, does that mean they can't take their own standard? Or can they benefit from both the Razor Standard and the Screaming Banner?

The skeles can benefit from both banners as long as you make the White King your Battle Standard Bearer. But judging by the points it doesn't look like you did. It's 25 points to make him the BSB plus 45 points for the Razor Banner. But that would take your hero points to I believe 275 which would be illegal for 900 points :(

You could do a Master Necro (lord) with MotD - 185 Then go for the WK BSB with Razor (hero) - 155. But you would have to sacrifice points elsewhere.

Ah, quite right yes... Need to make changes anyway...

Played a 1000pt battle today, took 10 ghouls to make up the final 100pts. Got absolutely stomped by Nurgle demon army. Hexwraiths would have been useless against demons, so proxied them as Black Knights. Despite him rolling a double six on the miscast table and reducing his wizard to 0 lvls, the following turn he rolled an 11 or something on the Chaos demon magic table, meaning my necromancer had to take a leadership test, which he failed, and was removed from play and replaced by a Herald of Nurgle. One more turn later things had crumbled to the point I had to concede.

So I'm thinking lose the WK with Razor banner and take a Vampire.

Could do with some more OOMPH/ hard hitting units...

Any suggestions for adapting this 1000pts?

Know a bit more about my metagame now: Nurgle Demons, Lizardmen, Dwarfs, Wood Elves, Skaven, Chaos Demons... Would love something that could reliably go up against the Nurgle Demons as they're quite infamous at the store for how nasty they are.

Do you have a Black Coach? I feel that would solve some of your problems at 800+ point games. Dire wolves too. You should only need one box at this level.

Trade out some of the zombies for more skeletons and give your necromancer Master of the Dead to increase the skeletons further. Zombies don't need it because of The Newly Dead. You definitely want something killy that can accept challenges if needed. A level 1 vampire with HA/S, Quickblood/beguile, dragonhelm, and ogre blade should do well and will run you about 206 points. Otherwise, I like to take Mannfred so I can double up on a few spells. You could also take Krell; even though he won't necessarily stop your whole army from crumbling from slain General, he will stop whatever unit he is in from crumbling and causes Terror.

As said, you could take a Master Nec, Master of the dead, Nightshroud, OTS, and Dragonbane gem for 245. Keep the Corpse Cart. If you have 1 point to spare, give him the spear (+1 S on charge).

As for the two banners, yes. they can benefit from their own and the BSB. Because the demons don't care about fear (mostly), I wouldn't take the screaming banner. Definitely keep for the other armies; for lizards, it cancels out Cold Blooded. You don't really want to spend points on a BSB at 1000, though it's not unheard of. Either run eternal flame or swiftness in the skeles. Accept that your skeles won't do much, so you don't need to take a champion; for ten points, you can take two more skeles...

So ten Dire Wolves runs in at 80pts, and a Black Coach at 195pts, question is where do I lose the pts elsewhere to take those units?

The Dire Wolves could take the 900pts up to 1000 and go for a 1000pt army (since most people tend to write points list for that, rather than 800 or 900). Which would give me 250pts for my Heroes.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Allowance: 1000pts

Heroes:
Necromancer, Lvl 2, Master of the Dead @ 120pts, leaves 130pts left for my Vampire...

Vampire, Lvl 1, Book of Arkhan @ 130pts (BoA or Forbidden Lore?)
or
Vampire, Lvl 1, Summon Creatures, Enchanted Shield, Biting Blade @ 130pts

Heroes Total: 250pts

Troops:
29 Zombies @ 87pts

29 Skeletons w/ Musician @ 155pts

8 Dire Wolves @ 64pts (Or run 2x4? what would be better?)

Total: 306

Special:
Corpse Cart w/ Balefire @ 105pts

5 Hexwraiths @ 150pts
or
5 Black Knights w/ Lances, barding, Hell Knight, Musician @ 150pts

Total: 255pts

Rare:
Black Coach @ 195pts

TOTAL: 1,006 pts.

Thoughts?

This is how I played mine at 1000:

Lords190
Master necro lvl 3

Hero 189
Vamp lvl 1 heavy armour,enchanted shield,sword of might,QB,

Core 255
32 skelly FC
20 zeds ,banner

Special 339

22 Grave guard FC
SH

U need a ward save to your vampire.at this low point is a great killer but QB is a must and the power u took are not effective. Use our magic only to boost with the dance or reinvigorate with the IoN,if you get raise the dead with the necro even better, the rest is wasted.
The black coach is great buy u need something else to do damage. Either u go with a 30 ghouls, either a block of 6-8 CH.

I run a little different. I don't have crypt horrors, so I don't know how they do. I just don't want to drop $130 on a normal-sized unit then not use them...
I run Master Nec lev 3, NS, OTS, DBG, Master of the Dead - 245
Mannfred the Acolyte
2x5 wolves, champions
20xskeles, FC, Screaming Banner (could drop magic banner for 5 more skeles)
Corpse Cart - balefire
Black Coach.
This list could potentially give you 2 Raise Dead spells and 2 Invocations, one of which increases the skeles. The Necromancers items are just for when he eventually gets into combat. If you aren't worried about that, then you could definitely change them out. Rod is good at low points, as is Arkhan, or Cursed Book.

Your list above looks decent, you just don't want to have skim points off of two heros. It's better to have one good hero than two measly ones. You can't run just four DWs. You don't need more than 20 zombies because IoN will do that for you. You also want to take a banner with the skeles, it doesn't have to be magic, but you still want one.

Yeah I'd like to give your list a try Alabaster. Currently don't have Mannfred the Acolyte, or a Black Coach... I also have some issues withthe Black Coach model, just think it looks so poor compared to say, the Dragon/TG or the Coven Throne/Mortis Engine. It sorely needs updating, although perhaps on a par with the spirit host. Cheers for the input guys.
