Yeah I've certainly seen the CAD tech. The new massively detailed kits are one of the reasons I'm looking forward to new Bretonnian stuff (Blood Knight/Swane conversions). Although one of my friends tells me there are rumours afoot that they might be doing away with Bretonnians and rolling them into the Empire to create a single "Armies of Men" book... I'm not sure I totally believe that. GW would make more money from selling books individually at the very least...

I'm also interested in a Bretonnian release, but honestly a kingdoms of man book would allow them to make telian pikemen, arabian units, etc.

an average 90% of the plastic of this world is made in china

My books also seem to have been printed in China. I checked the boxes from GW model kits that happened to be within arm's reach, and apparently my vargheists and my mortis engine were both made in the UK. My black knights, a box of skeletons, and boxes of Empire handgunners and flagellants were all made in the US.

Gamezone sculpts are mostly awesome but lack the flexibility of GW models, and at £42 for five Mournful Knights are only a bit cheaper than GW. Mantic zombies and ghouls are good but that's it.

I must have saw a wrong graphic o red something misleading, the correct number is 24% ,trusting this http://www.statista.com/statistics/...ction-share-of-various-countries-and-regions/

Still,Mantic based in Uk,half price for every model. Gamezone 30%, IMO is overpriced,if u think is not, good for ya.
However would more stimulating see what the competitors do. Roughly same size,at how much is sold

Unfortunatley none of the competition i know of is a publicly traded company, so data is not available.

Mantic's models range from 1 pound per figure to 60 pence, depending on the deal you buy.

I don't know, i think with the right paint job their skeletons and zombies, and especially the wight cavalry, is serviceable.

I'm very excited about this release. Its true, Nagash is expensive. If that were a problem for me I simply wouldn't buy it though. I love then models, books, paints, etc that GW puts out so I'm happy to support them so they can continue to do so.

Whether Nagash is overpriced or not, he is freaking expensive. I currently have no plans to ever buy him. I will probably pick up the book though.

I'm with you. I was so excited for this release, but after seeing the prices.....Crestfallen would be an apt description. No matter how badly I want that Nagash Model, I simply can not justify shelling out that much money for it, overpriced or not. Not with bills to pay. I'll be lucky If I can afford the book, but at $85....that's no sure thing. Greedy or not, intentional or not.....Games Workshop just priced me out of this hobby.

You know, I could see them making army books that cover broader subjects - ie elves, chaos, kingdoms of men, legions of undead etc. They bring together the most popular models into one army. Get rid of entries they have no plans to make models for and then leave all the pieces to build a bretonnian army or a tomb kings army etc. These end times books could be a test bed for armies like that. That let's us still play with armies we have, mix up with some new units or allies and come up with a new story that explains why these ragtag alliances exist.

I know this has been a rumor, and these end time books could be the reason for the rumor. But I guess I'm seeing how they can keep what people love and give them ways to build those armies while merging those armies under a banner too.

My problem isn't so much the cost of the Nagash model. Yes I think it is expensive but on its own I'd probably buy it. My problem is that this month they've released two codexes, a 40 campaign expansion and now the Nagash books and Nagash model. Since I play both 40 and Fantasy, and I like to own all the rulebooks, I simply don't have any money left for the Nagash model.

I hesitate to complain too much. At least they are not going months at a time without a release like they did at the start of the edition. I just don't see why they can't pace themselves. One fantasy or 40k release per month would still see each game completing a full cycle of army books/codexes every three years, with months to spare.

He is a big and pricey one, but I myself can understand throwing that kind of money on him - that's only a single mini, I won't need another one and at least he's big and impressive - it seems a better deal than Throgg at least  Besides, people only here think of the full GW prices - are there not cheap retailers in your countries? Here in Poland we have a shop that sells things at almost 25% off, that makes Nagash 250zł instead of 325zł - 80$ or 60euro - that is much more manageable and better than this chinaman thing. I will wait some time and then buy him when he's available on such sites. And being so expensive, I could get a free shipping maybe.

If I have to complain it would be about the books, especially that you HAVE to buy fluff along with the rules... The fluff is probably rife with recycled stuff and I'd like only the little rulebook, but NOOOO, I have to buy the fat one too... I guess I'll wait for ebay or such sites to get it separately. GW isn't making it very appealing to buy directly from them..

Wayland has him for 20% discount.....

Go figure why GW asks 20% more.

GW already sold it to them for a big fat profit, otherwise it wouldnt be worth doing it. So, conclusion is that GW ask ridiculous prices that are waaaayyyy overpriced

GW sells it for retail so they are not competing with retailers directly.

It makes no sense @najo.
You make a profit by selling it to retailers.
Then you sell it in your own stores for the top-price and your webshop has no discount price.......

Its the total opposite of logical marketing.
So they dont want to compete with retailers..... if they were smart they would simply put 20% off of their own prices and cut off the 'competition' . coz right now theyre feeding their own competition and chasing people away from their own stores.

They literally do not give one single F. The latest financial report preamble shows this. I mean hell, if a company doesn't even do market research they just don't care.

Yes, but the question here isn't whether or not GW are bad people. We know they're bad people. Remember that they not only thought Finecast was a good idea, they thought it would be a good idea to charge more for it, and when it was clearly an inferior product with a lot of problems, their marketing department just kept screaming about how awesome Finecast is, apparently in the hopes that if they repeated it often and loudly enough, it would somehow become true.

But GW being bad people does not mean that Nagash is necessarily overpriced.

I don't think he is overpriced, as i have stated. he is in line with other models they produce at his size.

GW having no discounts allows retailers and websites to compete without GW competing with them. If GW just discounted their products, then everyone would buy from them and all the FLGS may as well get rid of GW. Wargames need networks and communities to function and grow. Our hobby requires other people to participate together. GW knows this, so they stay out of retailers way with the primary parts of their line. Its not just GW, look at every big manufacturer, like privater press or fantasy flight. They sell at MSRP.

Selling through a webshop (like all retailers) and then sending it by mail (like all retailers) but asking a higher price than the retailers (like GW) amounts to less people buying form GW directly.
Plus on top of that, who needs retailers if its by postal delivery order through a webshop that is worldwide.

Basically GW could sell their product to all of us for the price they sell it to retailers. Which is the fair price, where they still make a generous profit.
THAT would amount in an increase of sales and would stimulate your fanbase to buy several armies, since prices are reasonable. That is how you can make more money and be a thorn in the eye of the competition.

Your network-ideas are nice and all but the network isnt created by letting retailers sell your products online for discount.

No internet retailer i know has a place where customers can play, most of them are based in some remote industrial terrain where they have storage and thats it. So theres no networking there.

All i see is something that costs 40€ (with profit) but gets sold 85 because of all the middlemen and their own greed. The two latter can simply be eliminated and then some people might buy 2x Nagash. Why? because he is freaking epic and you want to paint him twice differently.... And youre still 5€ cheaper
Its the exact same reason that Finecast failed... Not because of bad quality, that was a startup problem. It was great later on. Simply because youre creating things that are too pricey and therefore completely unattractive. Everyone was making conversions and buying Highelves on horses to portray bloodknights....

This is a massproduct where rule is: the more you sell, the more you make profit. Another rule of massproduct is low prices with less margins, to be attractive and be able to sell huge volumes. (especially true if you dont have a fancypansy-status like Apple)

I can see the merit in this train of thought, loss leader certainly has it's place.
