Nice Job on those Banners, those are excellent. Did you sketch them out at all first or did you just totally free hand those on there?

Thank you! They are completely freehanded, no sketching ;)

Cool I have been meaning to do fancier banners myself and been pondering how I might go about it. One of the painting aspects I haven't really done much practice on is banners let alone free hand banners.

Well, if I can recommend few tips, I would suggest to have a picture of what you are painting in front of you all the time, do not rush it and one thing above all - keep the color dilluted with water, a lot. This proved to be very important, at least for me. If the color is dilluted enough, it will not dry on your brush as you apply it, as you will probably take some time to pick the right spot before you apply the color. Also, drying color would twist your brush if you would be painting more intricate patters (not sure if I explained it correctly here, I mean that if your color starts to dry as you are applying it, the brush starts to stick to the surface and does not go smoothly along the painted surface).

I hope this helps at least a bit :)

Yesterday I finished my latest addition to my army, my new wight lord - Kedaedon:

I went with more earthly tones and painted his beard, hair and eyes in sharp contrast to this. I also tried some new techniques and gave proper testing to three of the GW limited colors - Typhus corrosion, Ryza rust and Nihilakh oxide. All in all, it was fun to paint this guy ;)

Really excellent painting on that Wight king and I like the mini, where is it from? I think that's some of the best painting in your plog, even better than your GB entry, really flawless

I do feel the orange hair is a touch too bright, though it contasts well it just looks a bit out of place as the rest of the mini is so realistic and earthy, but the hair is kind of fluro looking. May just be me though ;)

That Wight King is looking really great! I actually really like the vibrant orange, wouldn't mind a few more lighter highlights on it either. xD Liking the eyes and the shoulderpad borders as well. The only thing I would add is a bit of contrast to the axes, even if it's only rusty edges like on the pads.

Keep up the great work!

Thank you! It is from Enigma miniatures, called Kedaedon :) Unfortunatelly, I didn't have the time to finish it for GB, perhaps I can enter him next year :D

Yeah, they are really bright, but I like the contrast. On the other hand, I understand that it might not be for everybody :)

Hehe, thanks :D I'm really pleased with the way his eyes turned out :) I tried to add some contrast to the axes by painting the edge of blades silver, but it did not look good, so I toned it down a bit with Seraphim sepia, which is not very visible on the photos (it can be spotted on the back shot)

Had to jump into your thread to say what a phenomenal job you did on Kadaedon's paint job. I love the orange hair, and the eye paintjob makes him look like something right off an 80's heavy metal album color. Perfect!

So I recently got package I ordered on eBay with bunch of really nice minis. I finally get my hands on some familiars, they are really funny models :) One is already finished, two more to go.

Right now, I'm working on space ork for my girlfriend, which should be finished soon :) Next week (i.e. in 8 days, not this monday :D) starts new semester, so I hope I will still have enough time to paint, as I finally have miniatures I wanted to paint for a long time now.

Okay, I finished some of the models I got from ebay and I'm currently working on familiar converted from fairy.

Here is original model:

And here is my WIP. I cut off the wings and crown and modelled back her hair.

I'm also considering adding bat swarms wings to her, but I'm not sure about it. Mainly because I have only 6 bats right now and I would like to make one base later, but I'm not sure if 5 bats would look enough... swarmy :D I would really appreciate to know what you think about it :)

Thank you both :) So you think that 5 bats that would remain me should be sufficient for Bat swarm base? I'm a bit afraid that they would no longer look like "swarm".
Yeah I think it should be plenty. No problem. Its not like it could be confused with anything else either :)

Okay, thank you :)

Now I just need to decide on the color of her skin. I thought about painting her with Pallid Wych Flesh and using blue with Lahmian medium for shading, as I need to give this recipe a try before I apply it to my characters. I also considered just painting her skin red, but I afraid she would end up looking like result of Khorne and Slaanesh's forbidden love :D My final thought was to paint her like spirit, but I would probably not do that if I put on the wings.

Ookay, picture time!

First off, here is shot of Space Ork I painted for my girlfriend. I wanted to do some freehanding on him, so I painted him space ork symbol on the chest, but it is not very visible. Then, there is the checque pattern on shoulder pad and bullet counter on bolter. He is still missing blood on axe and terrain :)

Moving on to my familiars. I decided to use the bat swarm wings on the one posted a few post above as suggested. Here is the result:

Aaand, there is she completely finished. Yeah, I painted all the details :D

And group shot of all of my familiars:

And with necromancer:

I'm really happy with the way they turned out :) Later I felt bad for cutting the wings of my poor bat, so I decided to give him a little plastic :D It is not perfect, but I think it should look good when painted and stuck in swarm

And finally, Bat Swarm base I'm currently working on. Still misses two bats, but I will glue those later, as it would be terrible to paint with all of them in place.

Comments and criticism welcomed :)

Really like your stuff mate, the detail on that Ork rocks and your bat swarms look brilliant. Keep up the good work.

She turned out awesome! I like the ghosty look.

Thank you! :) The ghosty look was not the original intention, but I like how it turned out as well :)

Looking good!

Thanks! :)

Sexy boob pixy?...
You only had some of my attention but now you all all of it. :perv:

You rarely see the old familiars these days but I must say, yours do go down a treat.
I look forwards to more Easter eggs from the past in the future. :)

Hehe, thanks :D

Yeah, I was lucky to pick them in auction on eBay, for about 2-3 dollars each. Alas, I afraid I have no more old models left to paint :( In addition, RL is taking up much of my free time, but I still have some models waiting for paint. So if I will have some time, I will definitely post more :)

Reaper my old friend, there is always more models to paint.
The sun will grow cold and he stars in the night sky will wink out and die like snuffed candles before I ever reach the bottom of my painting pile. (There used to be a table but i think is somewhere in the middle of all the models...)
