I can see the general consensus is take lances and I totally agree ( same with GWs on GG). As for your modeling dilemma, I normally build half my models with X weapon choice and the other half with Y. This way I can field them either way by ranking up the weapon choice I choose in front. And it adds variation to the unit as a whole. As a matter of fact, if I started doing this when I first started playing. I'd never run into proxying problems at all. (Although I don't really play tournaments, so people are much more laid back and less nit-picky about what I field.)

I'm a perfectionist so modelling wise I love fielding WYSIWYG armies, though I don't enforce that upon my opponents. If you want a mix of lances and swords then I'm sure you'll be fine to play them either way as long as you let your opponent know.

In regards to the original question; lances on Black Knights. It's really worth it, and makes the most of the units charge, I wouldn't take anything else.

Even with WYSIWYG tournament settings, I've never seen a judge been called on GG with mixed weapons.

Ditto. I've never known anyone be that anal about models as long as things are reasonably clear.
