Greetings fellow bat enthusiasts,

As Rapscallion just before me, I'm also returning to the hobby after a (very) long hiatus. Indeed, I received a very serious threat from a friend: "I'm back home as soon as I'm done with this job abroad. You better have an army ready and painted by then!"
This shall not stand! It's time to awake skeletons and zombies!

More seriously, a bunch of friends and I are playing Warhammer Fantasy 6th with a fanmade compendium that adapt every unit from 4th to 8th editions for... well 6th rules. Please not that beside new units, the rest is the same as your regular and beloved 6th. (If you are curious, it's right here. So far the creator has been making the rules in Spanish -his native tongue- but plans to translate it when he's done with the books. I advice you to use your favorite translating tool in the meantime : Manuscritos de Nuth - ¡Cargad!) My most common opponents are Beastmen of Slaanesh, Dark Elves and Orcs & Goblins. As you can guess by my presence here, I am but a novice Vampire player.

I'm mostly looking for advices to build an army for this altered 6th edition and to collect miniatures, giving that some of them are no longer produced by GW. Maybe now is a good time to say that I really like both Von Carstein and Necrarch and that I can't choose between those two ? Also, I'll definitely post my models here as I (slowly) paint them... Just don't expect marvelous works.

IRL, I am an anthropologist that study the boundaries between life and death both in classical Mediterranean civilisations (welp, mostly Greek) and in modern media (welp, mostly video games). I guess it's fitting for a Vampire player, is it not?
Pleased to meet you all :)

Greetings fellow bat enthusiasts,

cool field of study, indeed!

Welcome aboard! I'm not an expert in older editions of warhammer (my experience goes back to 7th) but i'm sure you'll find some helpful hand. 😉

Hello and welcome!

Random 6th edition advice;
--Vampire Count, Vampire Thrall and 2 necromancers were the standard heroes I used. Book of Arkhan, Staff of Damnation were nice items for the necros. I believe I gave the count a 4+ ward save (obsidian amulet), sword of might (or battle) and Aura of Dark Majesty for Von Carstein. It's been a long time so please forgive me as it's tough to remember it all.

--Start with a couple blocks of 30 skeletons then raise more during the game. Outnumbering the enemy and causing fear made them autobreak

--Grave Guard (about 20 or more) along with War Banner and a von Carstein with Walking Death was quite good.

--10 black knights with Banner of the Barrows

--a couple troops of ghouls 8 each were excelent screens

--fell bats were nice to hunt warmachines. Wolves were decent as well

--a not so often used unit was 40 zombies 4 wide (I miss 6th edition lol) with a wraith hero carrying Cursed Book. summon more zombies and protect the flanks.

--Keep your army close to the general for the marching aura (bats don't need it as much nor do knights). This is crucial.

--Spirit Hosts were particularly good in 6th as most didn't have magical attacks to hit them.

Thank you all for the kind words!

I'll create new threads in their corresponding sections in the near future, to discuss army list and painting.

Welcome to the forum :). I hope that you enjoy participating in the discussions here. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them.

I hope to take a look at those rules at some stage. I don't need a translation tool ;).
