The really big issue I see is against the "nuke-spells" magic resistance is useless since those spells negates "saves of any kind". So its really only useful against magic missiles.

Well can you? The item description doesn't specify it as a suit of armour, it only says "The nightshroud adds +1 to the bearer's armour save." Just like the dragonhelm for example. So can you use the nightshroud on top of a suit of heavy armour and a shield for a 3+ Sv?
