I played the tournament today, here is the list I took (tweaked from the original list, after some great feedback here and on the Mantic Forum):
200 Zombie Legion with Dogs
320 Soul Reaver Regiment with Potion of the Caterpillar
140 Wraith Troop
160 Regiment of Werewolves
90 Skeleton Warrior...
CountUlrich I agree with your thought, except you have to take into account the point scale I am playing. 1500 points is about 500 less then the average games I hear played on GT levels and almost 1000 less then many of the mantic events.
In a smaller point scale game I think the wraiths can...
Hi Everyone,
This weekend a local store is having a 12 person Kings of War Tournament. Any of the rulebook scenarios, minus loot, could potentially be on the table to be used.
Here is my List:
Legion of Zombies with Giant Dogs 200
Regiment of Soul Reaver Cavalry with Potion of the...
I think you have gone a little bit too heavy on magical items for your units. Personally I would take off the upgrade for the zombies. I would also take the exploding thing off the ghouls, their nerve is so low that any shooting against them, even if it deals only 1 damage, has a decent chance...

Link to the zombie trolls for you :). I would reconsider using Crypt Horrors as werewolves, they seem closer to zombie trolls. I use Varghiests as werewolves. Zombie Trolls are actually pretty great since they can be...
Hey guys, I feel you, but could we maybe discuss warhammer (both old and new) somewhere else? Kings of War fans only have a sliver of this site, and since this thread was originally created to be about starting a "true" KoW army... seems weird to devolve into discussions of 8th ed, continuing on...
I mean one could argue it didn't matter what you put on your movement tray in WFB with that same logic :).
I think the problem is if you go into KoW expecting warhammer, yes it will feel like there is less there. You aren't playing warhammer though, things don't need all those special rules to...
I'm not certain how KoW lacks a fantasy element, but I can certainly see how it lacks some of the flavor and sizzle from WFB. That being said with the lack comes as much smoother, more balanced system. I will take a bit less sizzle for that, I also love the a KoW game takes about 1/2 the time a...
Agreed. I think the refreshing thing about Mantic though is that the company is not asking you to just buy their models. So I have been taking advantage looking at Reaper and some other places.
I just bought the Abyssal Dwarf starter army. Going to try to do Counter Charge's Army in a weekend. Will be doing multibasing and try to get the units really dynamic. I am pretty excited these minis look pretty great, and I have always wanted a dwarf army. Plus as others have mentioned the...
Lightning bolt on a liche with the upgrade to make the bolt increase is number value (to 7 I think?) was pretty cool. 7 piercing 1 attacks can really help weaken a unit that is bouncing off of a Legion of zombies.
I found heal to be pretty useful, but only on really big units like hordes and...
Hi Everyone,
Yesterday I finished reading the background for Kings of War (minus each section devoted to specific armies). I know it isn't as vibrant as WFB's was, but I really liked several of the concept in here, and though I would share, and see what other's liked/disliked and noticed...
I have three games under my belt and am looking forward to rebasing my VC to multibasing. My WFB army was themed in a graveyard and so had components from the garden of Moor cut and interspersed in, well with KoW I can make my dioramas even cooler!!!
Some things I am looking forward to, themed...
Pirate makes a great point character builds like this I have foud much more commons. I disagree that the razor standard is the way to counter it, but I totally agree the threat is there. My strategies, due to using skeletons is to avoid, redirect, and chip away while grabbing easy points. Fyi...
While I understand those +5 saves can lose you the game , isn't it more common to lose due to failed charges or getting out maneuvered? The +1 movement banner counters this. if you think it would help why not give it a try report back in the difference.
See here is the problem I see 8 and 9s for swift charges are not super difficult roughly average. In the empire player's eyes its always worth the gamble to take that charge. Looking at it from their perspective, while you see a 50% failure rate, they see a roughly 50/50 shot to end the game...
Nightshroud is deff a must, but the armor piercing won't effect your vampire lords because they have magic weapon right?
Seems like the counters aren't necessarily due to better saves, but better counters. They are better due to their maneuverability, and chances to charge you.
