Ahhh, Dwellers, the ultimate display of skillz. No saves at all vs Dwellers. Its the silliest spell of the lot. At least Purple Sun gives a 'Look out, Sir!'. Your Lord only fails on a 6 though. Steadfast? super broken
Kill them with big units of our own. Horded GG and Ghouls (40 minimum for Ghouls) with VHD/Shadow magic will tear up pretty much anyone. And the enemy troops aren't recyclable xD- Johnny B

VC can only be run as a deathstar?
You can play without deathstars, but there's really very few reasons to. 1. Deathstars are riskier for other armies who can't grow their troops back. 2. Undead take absurd casualties anyway so deathstars are a good move, having both the numbers to soak the damage and improved combat...- Johnny B

Well I wasn't suggesting you take all of them. 2 of the 3 would be nice though. Its not the fact they regen, its the fact they fight in 3 ranks and hit on 2s (Barrows and Helm). About the "8th Edition Nerf"
I think VCs aren't as bad off as some claim; its a shame that certain units fare so badly under 8th rules though. Watching your Zombies get annihilated by Skavenslaves who are a 1/3 of their cost is just depressing. I do find Zombies are just as good as getting stuck in the wheels of a STank as...- Johnny B

Helm of Commandment - am I getting it right
Its the best item in the VCs book, hands down. You use it in the combat phase, yours or your opponent's. It doesn't say when you have to declare it but you're going to know where you need it, and a lot of the time, so will your opponent :) Just say who is getting it before their combat is...- Johnny B

Best anvil in the game?
Without spells, I would say Tzeentch Chosen with shields; the armour, WS 6 and ward makes them seriously tough. Ld is the only dodgy part, 8 isn't great. Drakenhof Banner
In 8th, nothing VCs can throw out is cheesey; we need all the tools we can use. As already mentioned, the Banner of Eternal Flame means absolutely everyone can negate the Drakenhoff for a mere 10pts. Take it though, you'll need it at a tourney.- Johnny B

so you're gonna take a combat lord, but what about?
1) Even a combat lord should be a lvl3 if he is your only Lord. 2) Hide in a bunker with Helm of Commandment; Forbidden Lore allows him to do the VHD goodness, or take another Lore (Beasts is very nice for melee lists). 3) I run 2 units of 3 Wraiths, as does the fellow who got best VCs...- Johnny B
