Soooo....

This weekend I'm playing some 1000pts games, just to get used to new rules (I haven't played much since 6th, and then i was playing Empire...)

Main enemies will be HE, DE, and maybe Bret.

I have really big problems with characters, and with something to deal dmg. Unfortunately, I have just 20 ghouls, and no terrorgheist.

Vamp will go with skeletons, Necromancer in Zombie bunker behind them. Other than that, wolves are here because I want to try them (didn't used them before), and Wraiths are kinda my main dmg unit.

Any advice would be great, as this is first game with new vamps, and like 3-4th in 8th edition

Necromancer - 105
General, lvl 1, Lore of Vampires, Rod of Flaming Death

Vampire - 139
lvl1, Lore of Vampires, HA, Enchanted Shield, Dawn Stone

29 Skeleton Warriors - 175
Shield, Standard, Musician, Champion

18 Crypt Ghouls - 190
Ghast

20 Zombies - 60

2x5 Dire Wolves - 80

5 Cairn Wraiths - 250

Looks like a pretty vicious list, many opponents are not ready for ethereals at this level and have to choose to either take spells capable of killing them or take spells that will help the rest of the game. As long as you're smart and don't send them up against characters or units with magical attacks, they should be good.

I can't help but think about the usefulness of the ghouls...Perhaps to carry on the theme of ethereal spam you could take a unit of hexwraiths. They, combined with the wraiths, should be able to overwhelm the magical capabilities of anyone at this points level

I have played my first new VC game.

Vampire - 139.0
Enchanted Shield
Dawn Stone

Necromancer - 110.0
Master of the Dead;
Magic Level 1
Dispel Scroll

Skeleton Warriors 33 - 210.0
Screaming Banner

Zombies 20 - 60

Dire Wolves - 40.0

Dire Wolves - 40.0

Hexwraiths - 150.0

Cairn Wraiths - 250.0

It was kinda slow game, because we were checking rules every 2 sec, but idea to put more ethereal units was great :)
Ty Chaos_Born for that :)
In first game, HE player failed 3 terror tests in one turn, and flee off the table wit 2 units, and other was wiped with Hexwraits.

In second game i used little altered list, with no ethereal units, and more magic oriented. I managed to cast curse on his 25 men strong spears unit, killing him in 2-3 turns (he forgot to dispel it...) but in his last turn, he managed to kill my master necro giving him win with like 80pts. Not much fighting in this game, other than swordmasters destroying ghouls.

Only problem was close combat, my vamp couldn't kill nothing... zombies have killed more pts than him.
Overall it was fun, it was hard, and i learned A LOT about my army :)

Glad to be of help, good to hear that it went well

The reason your vampire isn't doing a great deal is because at such a low points level you kind of have to choose whether you want magic characters or fighty characters. That's why the ethereals work so well:D

Ethereal units are always tons of fun.
I watched a game where a vampire player fielded hex wraiths and a squad of Cairn Wraiths. His opponent only had a warrior priest to deal with them. I always try to take a Necromancer as my caster and a Vampire as my fighter. Magic doesn't rely on stats, but fighting does, so Vampire fit in snugly.
Also, when you start to get into bigger games, be sure to have a unit of Grave Guard handy.
Those guys are monsters and definatley worth every point.
